Why this Visual Arts Educator and Art Critic Thinks Its Important Her Daughter Have a Role Model That Looks Like Her

In November LadyDrinks is hosting a series of mother daughter events. Saturday November 4th, LadyDrinks hosts its next high tea in Princeton, with special guest Neha Chauhan Woodward, who is the founder and CEO of a line of ethnically diverse dolls called Girls & Co. She created these dolls with legends, sharing about their ambitions to become astronauts, politicians, and movie directors. The initiative was spurred by her desire to see dolls in stores that LOOKED LIKE HER.

So we ask each attendee to share, how important is it for your children to have role models that LOOK LIKE THEM? Details here to attend: https://bit.ly/2h2aJIE

"As my daughter was growing up, I noticed how much the perfect outfit, sleek hair and 'beautiful' features on the American Girl doll impacted her mind. That commercial ideal was what she wanted to look like. She was unconsciously mimicking the doll's appearance as if THAT was her role model.

Today, my daughter is a confident 16 year old. But given a choice, ten years ago, I would have relished introducing her to an American-Indian doll. It would have been the perfect way to help her absorb the roots of her culture and heritage, in a fun and natural way. "
