Why Value Is an Experience

This morning, I was about to step through my office gate when I saw one of our support staff sweeping the ground and something about the scene stopped me in my tracks.

This wasn’t just any path - this was the stretch outsiders walk by and cars drive through, where dust gathers, unnoticed by most. Yet, it always looks pristine. And why? Because someone quietly, faithfully sweeps it.

It hit me: value is an experience.

At SystemSpecs, where excellence is a core virtue, these men and women ensure our environment both inside and out is pristine. Excellence isn’t just a buzzword; it’s embedded in everything - even keeping the road beyond our walls clean. And today, I met the gentleman responsible for maintaining that standard, cheerfully going about his task.

You'd think such attention to detail is rare, but here, it’s different. There’s intentionality. Clear instructions guide these efforts. Not many organizations prioritize such attention to detail. Think about it, how many homes or offices leave their surroundings to chance, assuming “someone else” will handle it?

Truth is when you care about excellence, no space is beneath your attention.

Now imagine what would happen if the sweeping stopped. The dust would pile up, the mess would become glaringly obvious, and suddenly, everyone would notice. Funny, isn’t it? Value is often invisible until it’s absent.

As Ecclesiastes 9:10 reminds us: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” Even if it’s sweeping a gate or running an entire organization, the principle remains the same. Value is an experience - and every role, no matter how small it seems, plays a part in creating it.

That’s when it hit me again: the same is true for the work we all do. Some of us are in the spotlight; others are behind the scenes. Yet, each of us contributes to a seamless experience. The day we stop, the cracks start to show.

But here’s where it gets personal: we sometimes let discouragement creep in because no one notices or says “thank you.” I get it. We’re human. But let me encourage you with Galatians 6:9: “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

So, keep going. Even if no one claps. Even when the feedback stings. Take it as a challenge to refine, not retreat. Your work is making a difference, often in ways you can’t see.

Back to the man sweeping the gate - when I greeted him, his cheerful “Good morning!” caught me off guard. This wasn’t someone trudging through his job; he owned it with joy. Imagine if I’d found him grumpy or disengaged. It might have colored my day differently, and I wouldn’t have recognized the significance of his contribution. I might have missed the lesson altogether!

You see Life and work are a blend of joy and responsibility. And nothing beats a person who carries out their duties with the right attitude. Joy and responsibility are a winning combination.

Your value isn’t tied to your title, background, or appearance. It’s tied to the passion, skill, and attitude you bring to your role. Whether you’re leading a team, balancing spreadsheets, or - yes - sweeping a gate, how you show up matters.

So, let’s keep the faith and shine in whatever corner of the world we’ve been placed. Choose joy, even when it feels like the complaints outweigh the compliments. Take feedback as a tool, not a verdict. And, remember, you’re not just working for applause down here - you’re building treasure in heaven. So, keep doing your best. Even when no one is watching,

Proverbs 22:29 says it best: “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings.” You never know where your diligence and good attitude will take you.

May we never forget that value is an experience, and we have the privilege of creating it every day.

Love,

Esther
