Why use a Maintenance Bypass with a UPS?

Much like a UPS, the maintenance bypass was designed to support critical IT loads and equipment.
The UPS; depending on the configuration, supports the IT equipment when the utility power goes out and provide the user with additional time to gracefully shut down servers without loosing or corrupting data or can support hours of operation to facilitate critical business application such as Point of Sale transactions.
Bypasses are extensions of the risk management policy of the customer and generally deployed in the most critical of environments.
They are designed to allow the user to completely remove the UPS in the event of a catastrophic failure while continuing to provide connection to the utility, meaning the equipment is always up and running.
Other benefits can include, additional output receptacles, hardwired input and output configurations as well as operation with any brand of UPS, 3kVA or smaller.
Also of note is the fact that all 5-10kVA GXT5 models come with an integrated maintenance bypass as a standard.
