Restrictions on the use of Trichloroethylene are now just three months away from being implemented. The sunset date for the cleaning fluid, which is widely used in sectors such as aerospace, manufacturing and electronics is on April 21st 2016.
The restrictions are being implemented partly because Trichloroethylene has carcinogenic properties, while it also causes irritations in the eyes and skin. Furthermore, the cleaning fluid can induce drowsiness in those who are exposed to it. This combination of factors has led to it being classed as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) under the EU REACH regulations
