You may have seen this in the news recently: the B Corp Seventh Generation has been acquired by multinational giant Unilever. "Here's How the Unilever Deal Went Down"
This movement is exactly what gives me hope for the future.
Seventh Gen is a company that creates eco household products like soap or dishwashing liquid. They pride themselves on their B Corporation status, with an overall B Score of 125. Their concept is simple; to "nurture the health of the next seven generations."
"We are always evaluating how to reduce their environmental impact, increase performance and safety, and create a more sustainable supply chain. We believe it is our responsibility to set a course for a more mindful way of doing business, where companies act as partners with other stakeholders to create a brighter future for the whole planet."
So why did Unilever, (which already has a tonne of strong detergent brands and products) go out and purchase these guys?
Because #Future.
Paul Poleman knows the future of business is sustainable. He knows that the company can decide to either be the cause or the solution to many global challenges. By working with B Corps, Unilever can learn from their processes, benchmark against their other brands, and eventually phase out unsustainable products to make way for the next generation. (Or next seven in this case...)
This gives me hope.
Multinationals have scale, and through this new development, the positive impact and meaningful legacy of Seventh Generation will reach new heights around the world.
It's inspiring.

7 年As a former Unilever employee, I see this as part of Paul Pollman's goal of doubling the size of the company while reducing its environmental emissions by half. Pretty lofty goals which requires drastic moves... Good to see that he is making progress on his plan

8 年I hope Unilever could make these "green" products more affordable for mass consumers thanks to its massive scale. In today's world, only high income consumers could enjoy clean and green food and products - which should not be the case.
