Many users, including myself, prefer to use the same password across major platforms for ease of recall. However, varying password policies often make this impossible. Some platforms require special characters, while others enforce length restrictions or mandate frequent password changes. This inconsistency forces users to create and remember multiple unique passwords, leading to frustration when they cannot recall the correct one.

This lack of uniformity not only complicates the login process but also increases the likelihood of users resorting to insecure practices, such as writing down passwords or using overly simple ones. A standardized approach to password policies across platforms would simplify the user experience, making it easier to manage credentials securely and efficiently.

This inconsistency is illogical and frustrating. In contrast, Google’s approach is far more user-friendly: updating your profile picture in Google One automatically syncs the change across all Google platforms. This uniformity eliminates confusion and ensures a seamless experience for users.

A third example of inconsistency is the process of posting articles on LinkedIn. Despite being a platform designed for professionals to share insights and content, LinkedIn makes it surprisingly difficult to find the option to post an article. Unlike a regular post, which is prominently displayed, the article feature is buried within the interface.

For instance, when I wanted to publish an article, I spent several minutes searching for the option. I expected it to be as straightforward as clicking a "Post" button, but instead, I had to navigate through multiple menus and finally discover that the option is hidden under the "Write article" section, which is not immediately visible. This lack of intuitive design creates unnecessary friction for users who want to share long-form content.

A more uniform and user-friendly approach would be to place the "Write article" option alongside other posting features, making it easily accessible. This would align with user expectations and enhance the overall experience.

The lack of uniformity in these examples highlights a broader issue in the technical world: inconsistent design and functionality create unnecessary barriers for users. When platforms fail to follow standardized practices, users are forced to adapt to each platform’s unique quirks, leading to a fragmented and frustrating experience.

Uniformity, on the other hand, simplifies interactions, reduces cognitive load, and enhances usability. It allows users to apply their knowledge from one platform to another, creating a more intuitive and efficient experience. By prioritizing uniformity, developers and designers can ensure that their platforms are accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with user expectations.
