Why Turkey Pairs Well With Paper
Letters Against Isolation
Writing letters of joy and positivity to thousands of seniors around the world
Whether it’s the traditional sit-down dinner, or a more relaxed Friendsgiving, many of us will soon be celebrating an annual Thanksgiving meal.?
Is the menu the same every year, or will someone try to mix things up by introducing a new recipe to try? This year, you can be the one to introduce something new to the experience. Paper.?
Next to the napkins and name tags consider a notecard and a pen. Or to fill the lull between the turkey and dessert while the football game is on in the background, create a space where guests can write and relax.?
Creating messages in support of LAI’s mission to fight senior loneliness not only benefits the letter recipient, but also the sender.?
In a 2022 article in Real Simple, clinical psychologist Michael Mazius, Ph.D. said "By reaching out to others rather than just writing for oneself, a person has the opportunity to enter into exchanges that can bolster mental health—and as an added benefit, one can boost the mental health of another person.”
So sit down with the pumpkin pie and put a pen – or pencil, marker or crayon – to paper and write a brief note to help someone else feel appreciated and connected to the outside world. We are sure they will be grateful for you. Inspiration for letter content is all around you, and our blog can help if you get stuck.
With full hearts (and stomachs) this Thanksgiving, LAI gives thanks for all our current and future volunteers and donors.
