This is why training matters.

If you have been following the news you have probably seen the #IowaCaucus and you know it has become a #CaucusChaos.
This year they decided to use a new #mobileapp for each of the 1700 precincts to report their results. One of the main issues they are facing is lack of #training on the app itself.
“The app wasn’t included in the chair training that everyone was required to take,” said Zach Simonson, the Democratic Party chair in Wapello County.
I am sure the blame does not lie with 1700 volunteers who use the app. The fault lies with the creators of the app, those responsible for distributing it, and the people that ultimately made the decision to switch to using an app (without training)
And now they are making (embarrassing) headlines around the world. When lack of #education disrupts the #primary process and makes citizens question the underlying integrity of our election system.
As a member of #eLearning community, I am astonished by this. We have created many courses that simulate software and apps. We would have created a short tutorial with screen shots and video to walk each volunteer through the process. We would have added a section to check the volunteer’s knowledge by having them perform the required steps within a simulated app. And we would have tracked each volunteer’s success in a Learning Management System.
So, the next time someone says “We don’t really need training”, remind them of the 2020 #Iowa #Caucus #TrainingFail and tell them #TrainingMatters.
