Why Too Much Optimism is Dangerous

Why Too Much Optimism is Dangerous

Can you be too optimistic?

Can you be too optimistic? Absolutely.

That is called 'Pollyanna look at the world through rose-colored glasses'.

And if you're looking at the world too optimistically, you can start to miss opportunities and even more importantly you may not take action.

There's a certain urgency that comes from seeing a pessimistic lens.

If you see things are wrong in the world and they may not work out in your favor or for your team or your organization’s favor, you're much more likely to take action.

But you don't want to get dragged down in the pessimism because then you might not take action again. Because you think whatever you do may not matter anyway.

So think of it as a continuum, on one side you've got pessimism and on one side you've got optimism, but here in the middle you've got something called realistic optimism.

Realistic optimism is the idea that yes, you will succeed and be successful but you also have the belief that the road to success may be rocky and a little bumpy.

If you have that expectation, you will have an optimistic perspective and that real go-getter kind of attitude for you and your team but you also do the planning and take a very serious focus dedicated approach to achieving your goals.
