why was the tomb of Jesus empty?

the Romans and the Religious Authorities did not take it since they could have produced it later. The soldiers who guarded the tomb were subject to death if anyone took it. The pharisees asked that the large stone rolled over it should be sealed. They wanted an end of Jesus.
The Christian Disciples did not take it because they would not have suffered and dies for a lie. When they got to the tomb they found the grave-clothes that wound Jesus to have deflated like a balloon. After that the disciples and hundreds of followers were in meetings with Jesus over a period of time when he ate and talked with him. They recognised and were able to touch him.
Jesus did not faint on the cross and then come round inside the tomb to then escape because Luke (the disciple Doctor) explained that a soldier speared him and coagulated blood and water came out. Romans were expert killers. Add to this a huge sealed stone to be rolled away by someone whipped, beaten, crucified and speared and you can see it was not possible
The reason the tomb was empty was that Jesus had proved his claims to be Son of God by rising from the dead and proven that what he claimed about his task was true. he came to cleanse people from all wrongdoing. He came to offer eternal heavenly life as a gift to those who would take it.
You may have had chocolate or other gifts today. Please don't miss the one who is the cause for Easter. If you do not believe me just pray to Jesus to show you who he really is and he will answer in ways you do not even imagine.
