Why TMF Professionals Need a Reliable Communication Network: What the TikTok Ban Taught Us

Why TMF Professionals Need a Reliable Communication Network: What the TikTok Ban Taught Us

Hey TMF People - Let's Talk About Why You Need a Backup Plan for Your Professional Network

Look, I know we're all living on LinkedIn these days. It's where we share those TMF wins, ask about tricky inspection scenarios, and connect with other documentation wizards. But here's the thing - we need to talk about putting all our networking eggs in one basket.

Remember what happened with TikTok? Yeah, that got me thinking too. What if LinkedIn faced similar issues? Where would that leave all of us TMF folks who rely on it to stay connected and up-to-date?

I was chatting with a colleague of mine (she's been in the TMF game for ages) the other day, and she made a great point: "We're all sharing golden nuggets about regulatory updates and inspection tips on LinkedIn, but what's our Plan B?"

Here's the reality check - about 3 out of 4 of us TMF professionals are primarily using LinkedIn to:

  • Share those "help, inspection next week!" moments
  • Post about the latest regulatory changes
  • Ask about quality metrics
  • Find solutions for tricky filing situations

But here's where it gets interesting - and why I'm writing this article.

Think about it: When was the last time you had a critical TMF situation and needed quick input from your network? Maybe it was figuring out where to file that weird document that doesn't fit anywhere, or getting quick feedback on your quality metrics. Now imagine if you couldn't access your professional network right when you needed it most.

Having an email list is like having a professional insurance policy. When things get weird with social platforms, you've still got a direct line to your TMF tribe.

Let's be real - TMF work is already complicated enough. We're juggling:

  • Keeping everything inspection-ready (because they always show up at the perfect time, right?)
  • Staying on top of filing best practices
  • Managing quality metrics that make sense
  • Trying to keep up with ever-changing regulations

The last thing we need is to lose touch with our professional support system.

Regulations can change faster than we can update our SOPs. Having a solid network you can actually reach is non-negotiable.

So here's my suggestion - let's not wait until we're in panic mode. Take five minutes today and sign up for my mailing list and follow me on other social media platforms as well.

We're stronger together, and we need to make sure we stay that way.

Catch you on the flip side,

P.S. Yes, the irony of posting this on LinkedIn isn't lost on me. But seriously, let's connect via email and other social media platforms too! ??

Absolutely agree, Nicole! It's interesting how recruiters often reach out after months or even years of no contact. While I may not be actively job-hunting, I've still been consistently networking with colleagues and maintaining those professional connections. It goes to show that the best opportunities often come from nurturing relationships over time, even when there's no immediate need. Recruiters who stay in touch and value long-term communication not only build trust but are also more likely to be top of mind when the right role or partnership does arise. Staying engaged is key, whether it's for a job search or future collaborations!

This is a very good question and relates to other professional groups too! The safest way is the mailing list, and using the company mail. This also ensures traceability

Great idea, but is it really necessary to give my email adress to gain access to your Facebook group? The other questions are ok but why is an email adress necessary?

?? When you join my mailing list, I only email something important and don't spam. When I do send out an email, and you hit reply, it goes directly to me. I always respond.
