Terry Richardson On Why He Left AMD, GreenPages' Technology Chops, And The AI Opportunity
Channel sales superstar Terry Richardson, who has powered partner growth for 30-plus years for the likes of AMD, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and EMC, is taking his talents to the solution provider stage as the new chief revenue officer for national cloud and cybersecurity kingpin GreenPages.
Richardson, who stepped down as AMD North America Channel Chief just two weeks ago, said he finds it "very motivating and exciting" to be working on the solution provider side of the business for the first time in his career. He credited the channel with leading the charge for customers to make every major big technology transformation over the last four decades. "I continue to see the most successful vendors really embracing the channel," he said.
In a CRN exclusive interview, Richardson said he sees "nothing but opportunity for big growth" ahead for GreenPages in cloud, cybersecurity and AI, discussed the solution provider's "strong" technical team, and why he left AMD.

No Letup In 2023 Tech Layoffs: Cuts Continue In Second Quarter
Despite a tight IT labor market and a large number of job openings by IT firms looking for skilled professionals, tech company layoffs continue as businesses look to optimize their cost structures or adjust their market or growth plans.
There are several likely explanations as to why 2023 tech layoffs are increasing. Many CEOs are citing hiring too many employees during 2021 and 2022, as demand for IT solutions exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a main reason for letting employees go now.
Other companies are explaining layoffs as part of a plan to reorganize to better meet customer requirements or to take better advantage of newer technologies such as the cloud.
Learn about the tech companies that have instituted layoffs so far in the second quarter of 2023. CRN will update this list on an ongoing basis.

Google Vs. Amazon Vs. Microsoft: Q1 Cloud Earnings Face-Off
Amazon, Google and Microsoft each reported their cloud earnings results for the first quarter of 2023, with all three cloud giants reporting double-digit sales growth and positive operating income for the first time ever.
Amazon, led by its cloud arm Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, by its Azure cloud unit and Google, by its cloud business Google Cloud, combined, won roughly two-thirds of the massive $63 billion global cloud infrastructure services market during the first quarter of 2023, according to new market share data from Synergy Research Group.
"There has been some angst about declining cloud growth rates, but the Q1 worldwide market value grew by more than $10 billion compared with the first quarter of 2022," Chief Analyst at Synergy Research Group John Dinsdale said in a statement. "Clearly the relatively weak economy has caused some enterprises to more closely review spending on cloud services, but the market continues to grow despite those challenges."
Here's what channel partners, customers and investors need to know when comparing the most recent cloud computing financial results for AWS, Microsoft and Google Cloud in terms of: total revenue, year-over-year sales growth, operating income, global market share, as well as their parent companies' overall results.
