Why team suffers from Controlling Behavior----

Controlling behavior is an usual observation, which teams do experience irrespective of location, grade, designation , department & culture . A strong controlling climate , is something which suppress a mind to open, to think , and even to feel.
Its a human behavior , that when you are extremely ruled you behave in two ways either you REVOLT or you ABSORB. When one revolts , then the reactive behavior comes into being , which might lead to a wrong conclusion or unintended motive . When its an absorption mode , then the higher possibility is that the person would stop being expressive and stop their way of thinking and accept the way it comes, or dumped on them which results to a severe unproductive and non responsive outcome .
Why a controlling behavior - Controlling behavior is a strong result of insecurity and anxiety. It is also another way to SEEK ATTENTION. These people are more into micro management and seek to grasp and involve themselves into minutest details. The anxiety comes due to lacking trust on each other and always feel safe to be surrounded by people .If an individual have a controlling behavior , then they cannot behave to be in a team , they will be more prone to misbehave , belittle others, in order to prove their superiority and tend to ignore others' opinions .

If a BOSS do have a controlling behavior who leads a team , then he/she will not accept suggestions , but only advise . Leadership will be highly autocratic which will not allow others to cope up with. Sharing feedback will not be more constructive so that the instructional methodology can be used more .
Based on these , highly controlling culture and behavior , are intensely not safe for any organization . Few positions , do need to control and situations also need to be kept under control , but if its in the DNA of an organization , then team cohesiveness , and the group efforts might be under threat .

1 年Very well articulated. Doing micro management with controlling attitude is a immature act which leads to frustration down the line. And most sad part of the story is due to this frustration and suffocating environment , a good performer leaves the organisation and ultimately the company will lose a valuable employee. I feel organisations should think of incorporating cross functional appraisal system where the subordinates will also get a chance to rate their supervisors. Unbiased analysis of this data by HR is also very necessary to create a healthy environment inside the organisation .
