"Why Not? A Tale of Ramadan Through My Son's Eyes"

"Why Not? A Tale of Ramadan Through My Son's Eyes"

"Welcome to 'My Human Stories,' where I share personal tales from my journey through leadership, learning, motherhood, and health. Each story is a piece of my life, aimed to inspire, amuse, and impart wisdom."

Sometimes, life's greatest teachers are the ones we least expect, and this month, my instructor in unexpected lessons was none other than my 12-year-old, Leonardo. His leap into a new experience not only added a fresh chapter to our family's story but also intertwined the essence of leadership, learning, motherhood, and health in a truly unique way.

Our family's journey in the UAE has immersed us in a mosaic of cultural traditions, one of which is the observance of Ramadan. This year, Leonardo, driven by a mix of respect for his classmates and sheer curiosity, chose to join in the fasting. His decision was a blend of youthful spontaneity and thoughtful planning—from whipping up an egg white omelet at dawn to have his first Suhoor to his philosophical take on eating bacon while fasting.

What I Learned: This adventure of Leonardo's is more than just a child's whimsical experiment; it's a profound life lesson wrapped in simplicity. It's about the bravery to step out of our comfort zones and the wonders that unfold when we do. His journey is a nudge for us all to lean into curiosity and let experience be our guide, whether it's in our personal lives, our careers, or in building relationships.

There's a quote by #Jamie Foxx, shared by Tim Ferriss in his book Tool of titans, that goes, "What is on the other side of fear? Nothing." It perfectly echoes the essence of today's tale. Fear is often the only thing holding us back from exploring, learning, and growing. Stepping beyond fear, as Leonardo did, reveals that success or failure, the true reward is the insight gained.

As I wait to hear about Leonardo's day at school, I'm reminded of the beauty of embracing life's unknowns. His Ramadan journey, whether it lasts a day or the entire month, is a vivid reminder of the richness that comes from daring to ask, "Why not?". So inspired by Leonardo and provoked by Ron Thomas I asked myself why not and this is a start of something new for me as well.

With every post I will share my personal book and podcast recommendation:

Join me in this mindset of exploration and discovery. Who knows what insights and growth await us just beyond the question, "Why not?". Share your thoughts!
