Why Sustainability is NOT an Industry

Why Sustainability is NOT an Industry

In the realm of business, sustainability is often misclassified as an industry. This is a misconception.

Sustainability, in fact, is not an industry but a principle that transcends industries, tying together customers and suppliers from diverse sectors. It is a universal ethos that should permeate every facet of business operations, regardless of the industry.

?

The Interconnectedness of Industries

?

Consider the automotive industry, a sector traditionally associated with the mobility and transportation industry. Car manufacturers, such as Ford or Toyota, are customers in this context. They rely on suppliers from a completely different industry - the petrochemical industry - for essential components like tires. Tire manufacturers, such as Michelin or Bridgestone, are thus key players in the automotive industry's supply chain.

?

The relationship between car manufacturers and tire suppliers illustrates the interconnectedness of industries and the cross-industry applicability of sustainability. Both sectors have a shared responsibility to promote sustainable practices. For instance, car companies can influence the sustainability of the petrochemical industry by demanding tires made from sustainable materials. Conversely, tire companies can contribute to the sustainability of the automotive industry by innovating eco-friendly tire designs that improve fuel efficiency.

?

?Sustainability: A Shared Responsibility

?

This symbiotic relationship extends beyond these two industries. The ripple effect of sustainable practices in one sector can influence the sustainability of other sectors, creating a chain reaction of positive environmental impact. This is the essence of sustainability - it is not confined to a single industry but is a shared responsibility that spans across all sectors.

?

?Conclusion

?

In conclusion, sustainability is not an industry; it is a principle that binds industries together. It is a common thread that weaves through the fabric of all business operations, connecting disparate sectors in a shared commitment to a sustainable future. The sooner businesses recognize this, the sooner they can contribute to a more sustainable world.

Based on my philosophe: Sustainability of quality definition: Sustainability(SQ) is the time segment[t1,t2] where quality(Q) of thing is costant(C). Mathematically: SQ = T[t1,t2] if Qconstant Example: If the quality of the apple in market is 1.5 good, one week from today; the sustainability of this apple is 7 day 1.5 good. Sustainability progress (SP): [SP] is segment of time where progress(P) of process is constant improving. Example: If the quality of the apple is constantly impruving with 0.05 better per day; for 5 day, the sustainable progress is 5 day 0.05 well/day.
