Why sustainability is an important part of our policy

We all know why it’s important to be sustainable and, like many companies, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. Protecting the planet for our children and our children’s children is paramount, and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by making changes.

For us, it’s not just lip service which is why we keep ourselves accountable with ISO 14001 certification.

Responsible manufacturing

Like many companies, we’re increasingly concerned about the environment, and are continually looking for ways of doing the right thing when it comes to the future of our planet. This is why we have invested heavily in energy-efficient technologies and devised waste reduction strategies and eco-friendly processes to minimise our carbon footprint.

The sustainability measures we take also benefit clients who have the same ambitions because by using a supplier with strong sustainability credentials, they are strengthening their own.?

Big changes

The biggest step we’ve taken towards sustainability so far is the installation of solar panels at our Welwyn Garden City HQ this May. It’s been a huge investment, but having our own source of renewable energy means our reliance on energy from the national grid is massively reduced - in the summer months we’re now producing enough power to be entirely self-sufficient. In fact, we’re producing more than we can use, so we are now exploring ways of utilising the excess, such as adding charging points for staff with electric cars.?

We have upgraded our compressors so they are not only 20% more efficient than they were previously, but we’ve also found a way to reclaim the waste heat produced, using it to help heat our building, further reducing our reliance on fossil fuels for energy.

Small changes?

Eventually, lots of small changes will add up and, combined, will make a big difference. We’ve already implemented smaller changes, such as using high-efficiency lighting with motion sensors.?

We make sure everyone segregates our plastic and metal waste products so they can be stored and collected for recycling. We also fully recycle our cardboard waste by repurposing it as packaging - this means we have fewer waste collections.?

When it comes to the paints we use in our products, we’ve been phasing out solvent-based ones in favour of water-based coatings as this is safer for the environment and reduces air pollution, but without compromising on product quality. It also creates a nicer working environment for our staff.?

High quality products that are built to last

We have always prided ourselves on the quality of our products. They are strong and robust, designed to not only be fit for purpose, but to last for many years, even in extreme conditions. With minimal need for repairs or replacements, we give our customers a good ROI in terms of replacing parts and man hours spent on maintenance, as well as reducing downtime while repairs are taking place. In the long run, using higher quality parts will save your company a lot of time and money.??

Continuing our sustainability journey

We’ve made some big changes in order to become more sustainable, but it doesn’t end there. We’ll always be on the lookout for ways of improving our environmental impact and reducing our impact on the planet. Watch this space!?
