Why Suppression is not the solution to depression!

Everyone today knows about depression, to an extent talks about it but the real question is do we really understand what it is?

How to deal with it and why it is not always important to get into the root cause of it?

I have family members who have been in such situations and I have seen them struggle, struggle to get from their bed to do what they love doing, trust me this struggle is real.

Before I begin this let me say few things very clearly on this topic:

Depression has nothing to do with your financial, physical or mental status. It is something much beyond all this. I have seen people in the best of their health with good pockets struggling to deal with the light of the day.

Though dictionary has a different meaning to it but to me it is a deep suppression of unmet wants.

All our lives we consciously or subconsciously are processing information in our own unique ways, interpreting its meaning and drawing out at time over exaggerated outcomes.

We never get the time to think what is taking us away and why we are chasing what we are chasing. Result, weak relationships, exaggerated claims and unsatisfied emotions.

There are many antidepressant pills that are available in the market but trust me it goes beyond the chemical imbalances of the mind.

For example: Mental anxiety can arise from a simple situation like going to the office for the work in which you have no say whatsoever.

Like this there are many other reasons as well that can stem up responses in your mind that can make it work against you.

Think about this, we are in some way or the other are chasing contentment and happiness, however if you are sad, agitated or angry this means that the very mind which was supposed to work for your fulfillment is now working against you.

The question is how can we deal with this or help other person who is suffering come out of it. There is no definite answer to it because as we humans have lost the art of caring for each other without establishing expectations.

Also we all have this tendency to over rate our intelligence which further makes it hard for us to listen to a person without giving them any advice or suggestion. However at times the person who is in this state of mind wants someone to quietly sit with him and allow him to express his pain.

Yes, I am not saying that this works all the time in most cases you need medication but at times if you can hear someone out with judging or perceiving them it can do them a world of good.

We humans have evolved and survived because of our habits to form the groups. Our ancestors use to hunt in tribes, moves in groups this is why we have reached where we are today but somehow we have lost that connection.

For some reason we have isolated ourselves from the rest of the world. Yes, in a way we are connected with each other through Social media but deep inside we know that most of these connections are doing us more harm than good.

We need to go back to nature, revisit our hobbies and strengthen the courage to speak out our concerns. Trust me there are a lot of people who are willing to connect but somehow hiding in their shells thinking they will be misunderstood. Friends come out and talk and you will find that people are there to listen to you.

Suppression is not the solution to depression!
