Marseille, arguably the inventors of soap, pizza and an unparalleled zeal to live life, is the 2nd largest city in France. It is close to my heart as well, since I spent a year almost a decade back here and was also my first ever international destination.
Turquoise blue waters, incredible mediterranean food, warm temperatures and people and its beautiful landscapes, make the city incredible. That said, Marseille is also a great student destination. Home to some of the best varsities, the city boasts of an influential presence in arts, creatives, design and fashion as well.
While everyone may have their own reasons to #studyabroad in a particular country or city, here are my top 10 reasons to choose #Marseille
Studying in Marseille offers a unique combination of cultural richness, historical significance, and academic opportunities. Here are some compelling reasons to consider studying in Marseille:
- Cultural & Diversity: France's oldest city and melting pot of cultures, home to people from across the globe like Africa, Asia, Europe etc.
- High Quality Education: Home to top varsities like
Aix-Marseille University
&
KEDGE Business School
- True Mediterranean Lifestyle: Pleasant climate with mild winters and hot summers
- Strategic Location: The French Riviera, Provence, centrally located between North of Italy and Spain
- Affordability: Not as expensive as Paris and yet offers a great standard of life, avg cost of living for international students may be around 500-700 Euros/month

Merely, #KEDGEBS has dozens of student clubs to engage and participate and take your extra curriculars to the next level
- Rich Gastronomy: That has to be one of the advantages of studying in France, Marseille offers delicious food experiences, from local specialties like Bouillabaisse (a traditional fish stew) to a wide range of Mediterranean cuisine like Pizza, Pasta & ofcourse Pastis, influenced by the city's multicultural population
- Sports: Paris Olympics would have told you anyway more than I can, best known for water sports, sailing, rowing and beach volleyball, Marseille offers plethora of water sports activities for beach bums
- Connectivity: While it may be some 700 kms from Paris, the capital of France, it barely takes 3.5 hours to reach Paris from Marseille, thanks to the TGV, one of the fastest train in the world. Marseille is very well connected to some of the top locations in France and abroad
- KEDGE Business School: While it may feature here as the 10th reason, it was my #1 reason to study in Marseille. France's largest Business school, founded in 1874, #KEDGEBS is home to more than 85000 alumni across the globe, 15000 students, 25% international students, and offers over 38 management programs. I chose Marseille because of #KEDGE and I chose KEDGE because of my favourite program, Masters in International Business which is not only probably taught best at KEDGE but in entire western Europe. Overall, studying in Marseille combines academic excellence with the benefits of living in a culturally rich, diverse, and historically significant city. And as once said by a great lady, who also happened to be my Professor way back in 2015, ''Marseille is the greatest city in the world'', my word, ''Beauty is in the eye of the beholder''
