1 Control systems basics

Control systems are composed of sensors, actuators, controllers, and feedback loops. Sensors measure the state of a system or a process, such as the temperature, pressure, or flow of a fluid. Actuators modify the system or process by applying a force, voltage, or signal, such as opening or closing a valve, switching on or off a light, or changing the speed of a motor. Controllers process the sensor data and generate the actuator commands, according to a predefined set of rules, algorithms, or models. Feedback loops enable the controllers to adjust the actuator commands based on the actual outcome of the system or process, and to correct any errors or disturbances.
