THE STRANGE "MIRROR RITUAL" THAT TURNED MY BUSINESS FAILURES INTO MASSIVE PROFITS
Here's what separates successful people from everyone else. And no, it's not what you think.
THE RESPONSIBILITY SHIFT
Let me tell you about one of the key differences I see between successful and unsuccessful people. Success varies from person to person. Some want a beautiful family. Others want to achieve great things. But there's one pattern I see over and over, and it has nothing to do with talent or luck.
Successful people don't make excuses. They make progress.
THE EXCUSE TRAP
Most people blame external circumstances for their failures. They say things like "the economy is bad" or "the client is difficult" or "the software doesn't work." They constantly claim they just have bad luck.
But here's what they're missing - everyone faces these same circumstances. Is there a special economy that only applies to you? Of course not.
THE CRUCIAL DISTINCTION
There's something most people don't understand about success. You need to separate two important concepts: fault versus responsibility.
Sometimes bad things happen that aren't your fault. But you're always responsible for how you handle them. This distinction changes everything.
THE BUSINESS REALITY
Let me show you exactly how this plays out. When I started in affiliate marketing, I made very deliberate choices. I looked at all possible business models and asked myself: "What requires the least daily effort to maintain?"
The answer? Something with repeat buyers. Because when customers buy repeatedly, you don't have to fight for new clients every single day.
Think about selling computers. Someone buys a $2,000 computer - great. But when can they buy again? Maybe in two years. That's a lot of constant hunting for new customers.
THE STRATEGIC CHOICE
This thinking led me to women's clothing. Women buy clothes regularly, unlike men who'll wear the same jeans until they fall apart. I started with hundreds of brands, carefully testing each one.
After analyzing the results, one brand stood out - producing 90% of my revenue. It made perfect sense to focus solely on them. At least, that's what I thought.
THE COMFORTABLE TRAP
The money was too good. I was working just a few hours every Monday and making more than people working full weeks. It was too tempting to ignore the risks.
Then the brand started changing policies. First, they cut commissions from 30% to 20%. Then they talked about pausing the whole program. Suddenly, my perfect business was in trouble.
Was it my fault the brand changed their policy? No. But it was absolutely my responsibility that I'd put all my eggs in one basket.
THE MORTGAGE LESSON
This wasn't my first expensive lesson about responsibility. Years ago, I bought an apartment in France, not because I wanted to, but because everyone said I should become a landlord.
I ended up with the worst mortgage rate anyone had ever seen. People kept telling me, "The banker ripped you off!"
But here's the truth - the banker gave me every document. Every detail. Every number. I just didn't read them carefully enough.
THE MIRROR MOMENT
It would be easy to blame the bank. To say they took advantage. But that's not the truth.
I had a week to review everything. A week to do my research. A week to ask questions. I didn't.
That wasn't the bank's fault. That was my responsibility. Now my responsibility is to make sure I never make that mistake again.

THE TEAM APPROACH
This philosophy changes how I run my entire business. When someone on my team makes a mistake, I don't immediately blame them.
Instead, I look at the process first:
Because if you fire Susan and hire Mandy, and Mandy makes the same mistake, maybe the problem isn't the person. Maybe it's the process you created.
THE AVIATION EXAMPLE
Think about how the aviation industry handles problems. When the Concorde had issues with birds hitting engines, they didn't just say, "Well, that's the birds' fault."
They took responsibility. They improved their systems. They made changes to prevent it from happening again.
That's how real progress happens - not by finding someone to blame, but by finding solutions to prevent future problems.
THE HAPPINESS FACTOR
This approach doesn't just improve your business - it improves your entire life. When you take responsibility, your relationships get better. Your work gets better. Everything gets better.
People are happier and more efficient in an environment where they feel appreciated and respected, not constantly blamed and criticized.
THE DAILY PRACTICE
Every morning, I look in the mirror first. Before blaming anyone or anything else, I ask myself, "What's my share of responsibility here?"
This simple practice has transformed my life and business. It's why I make progress every single day.
THE TOXIC INFLUENCE
Watch out for people who are always "unlucky." Who always have a story about why nothing is their fault.
I knew someone whose own mother believed she was the unluckiest person alive. "She only meets bad people," her mother would say.
But when you've had 15 years of "bad luck," maybe it's time to look for the common denominator.
THE PATH TO GROWTH
Every day, you have a choice. You can make excuses, or you can make progress. You cannot do both.
Looking in the mirror first isn't easy. But it's the only way to create real change in your life.
This applies to everything:
