Why Some Girls Lose Opportunities

Yesterday I was talking to a young lady and advising her of certain things she should stop doing, posting and representing on social media. Especially Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. 

She desires to build a thriving international corporate professional career. 

While trying to drive home my point, she said "But there are other girls on social media who do that. But are still successful and getting opportunities" 

She continued, "There are girls who do videos and share pictures, dress up half naked, partying videos etc but they have jobs..." 

I laughed and I told her. 

"Never look at what someone is doing and copy. Moreover, you are not other girls". 

Let me give you an example, I continued. 

I showed her a lady on my Facebook who likes to dress looking fly, with half naked pictures and share videos representing clubbing, nightlife etc.

Then I told her, "You see this lady, she is the director of.... and both her father and mother are top officials in the government. Someone like her, with just a phone call she will likely get a job without an interview" 

Then I asked her about her parents and she said "My dad is late and my mother is in the village not far from Bamenda and she is a farmer"

Then I told her "People like you and I, we do not have family names we can leverage on to stand on certain platforms. Only our hard work, skills, attitude, integrity, professional ethics, grace and favour of God etc can get us to be part of certain platforms. So we will be stupid trying to act and live like certain people who if they do not have jobs, they will still be on a monthly allowance better than many people's salaries" 

I continued "You see that stupid thing people say I do not care what people think about me? My life is my life? Is a lie from the devil to destroy young people. Whether you like it or not before you say a word, how your dress, look and your social media will give someone a certain impression about you and what they say or act from that moment henceforth will be base on that first impression"

She was keenly looking at me as I was talking. 

Then I concluded by saying "Young people like you and I who do not have strong family names that can knock doors for us, our greatest assets include ethical living, respecting professional standards, growing in knowledge and skills, building the right relationships, making God the priority of our priorities..."

May you not lose opportunities and open doors because of bad character and bad lifestyle.
