Why social media platforms don't have an "I Hate it" icon?
The title and content below may not sync with many reading this post, but there is a definite connection. Also, you would ridicule the fact that why is this on this platform, and again there is a serious lesson that we all must learn from this beautiful piece of art.
Last night I watched the movie "Chup - Revenge of the Artist".
It is a slow movie but as Andre De Shields would say - "Slowly is the fastest way to get where you want to be". There couldn't have been a pace better than this for this movie, which takes you from an individual's simple, sober life to the intense dark side that dominates the script.
I have been a movie/web-series lover for decades now, but this movie gives a different angle of seeing movies. Directly or indirectly every movie has a shade of real events that happened in the creators' world, which is what many reviewers or the audience miss.
Every Friday holds the survival of thousands of people who are involved in it for months and in some cases years, and their destiny is decided by that 120-180 minutes of the viewing experience. So isn't it brutal and cruel to just trash it, just like that? Yes, there would be an argument that after paying money we expect entertainment, which is fair, but if you don't like it let it be a personal affair within your circles, and don't make it public. Bas "CHUP" raho and move on, don't rant about it socially! (FYI - This is not the plot of this movie)
And this is where the title of this post gets context. Just imagine, after all of us upload a post on any of the social media platforms, when the likes are not good enough, anxiety creeps in and we are sad for weeks, and in some cases calls for some serious relationship damage. There has been a web series recently where a girl commits suicide because of some comments on her feed. Now imagine, if an "I Hate It" icon is introduced, what is the level of damage that it would create to human minds?
If you think about it, these platforms can generate insane interest & engagement by enabling this feature, as all of us know, hatred, fear, and anger spread much faster than other any other emotion, which would mean a direct co-relation to performance metrics of these platforms and thereby a revenue multiplier. But I think there are a group of people in these companies, who actually take the onus of keeping it sane enough to manage the damage.
The philosophy of not expressing an "I Hate It" emotion, also correlates to the standard leadership rules of "Praise in public, reprimand in private" - which I am continuously learning and have learnt from some amazing leaders and mentors I have worked with.
About the performances, technicalities and other critical aspects of the movie, as I always say, I am not qualified enough or rather not qualified at all to comment on it. I loved every bit of the movie, especially the background score. I am a crazy fan of Dulquer Salmaan, always loved Shreya Dhanwanthary's work and am very happy to see Sunny Deol and Pooja Bhatt after a long time. The entire cast has done an amazing display of talent, with a special mention to Rajeev and Saranya.
