Why Social Media Marketing Helps Drive Website Traffic

Why Social Media Marketing Helps Drive Website Traffic

You can have a website that is super user-friendly and intuitive, chock full of all of the information a user needs to know with a sleek, modern design, but if nobody visits it, they'll never know how awesome it is.

This is where social media marketing comes in. It can help drive traffic to your website??

When I discover a cool new product or service, most of the time, I find out through Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok, and my first thought is, "This is so amazing/cute! But is it legit? ??"

It's shockingly easy to create a new account, slap a few photos of "handmade whatever" on it, and then write in "DM to purchase" as part of the text of every post (no, I have not done this, but I see many scammy looking accounts out there). I'll have to talk about how you can smell a potentially scammy product, or a misrepresented brand, on social media from a mile away...

On the product or service's social media page, I check to see if any of my own followers or someone who follows me also follows the account. If multiple people whom I likely have similar interests think it's legitimate, it's a lot less likely to be scammy. According to The Bazaar Voice, social media users are 37% more likely to listen to take a product recommendation from everyday, regular people on social media compared to celebrities, subject matter experts, and social media stars. At the same time, I check the feed for close-up photos to see the quality-- if it's a sweater, does it look like polyester instead of cotton? Am I actually getting what I'm paying for?

Only after the account passes the social media "sniff test" do I take the next step of reading at the description and the other photos on the website.

Notice how I didn't say that I immediately jump to the website link to learn more. These days, you're more likely to trust what unbiased customers say on social media. You can find their reviews right there, which spurs them on to take action to follow through with messaging you or purchasing from you.

An informative and well-designed website is still important even though your traffic will likely come from social media, though. Why? Even though your social media page is aesthetically pleasing with gorgeous photos sharing post after post with rave reviews from your audience, if your website looks like it's stuck in the 90s, or the checkout process is clunky and frustrating, then you're less likely to close the sale.

It's highly unlikely shoppers will find you by typing in the exact URL to your website, so consider diversifying the entry points to your website. Having a presence on multiple social media platforms serves as multiple gateways for different segments of your audience to get introduced to your brand.

One easy way to ensure folks visiting your social media page find your website is to plug the link to the website in wherever it asks. To make it extra obvious, in the description, write text similar to "Shop my collection on my site ?" or "Follow the link to book a consultation ????". Check your page out now ??.

And make sure to add icons to all of your social media pages! Users prefer different platforms, and many will want to follow your journey in a raw, human way. They want to know who is behind the brand, or they could just really dig the aesthetics and vibes. Social media is perfect for that.
