Why Social Media is Important

Watch the Video Here Should You Be On Social Media?

As a business owner, you get a lot of advice, people are coming at you from all directions telling you what you should be doing with digital marketing. Should you do a paid search? Should you do social media? Should you do blogging? Do I really need to be on social media?

Well, at the end of the day, you as a business owner, have to make some critical decisions about what you’re going to do and this is hard because we’re not experts in these spaces, right?

We’re not experts in SEO, we’re experts in paid search. We’re not experts in the world of Social media. Maybe you think social media is for the kids and not for you or your business, with more businesses needing to pivot in these changing times social networking has become a new way of doing business, and the best way to reach your target audience.

As part of following me and my YouTube channel and the things that I’m recommending in my videos, hopefully, it will help you understand what level of involvement as an owner in your business you need to have.

Then what can you give to your team or outside vendors? When it comes to Social Media Marketing, it is better to keep your marketing internal, because who knows your business better than you and your marketing team.

Why Do You Need to Be on Social Media?

When I talk about social media specifically and social media presence, I get a lot of eye rolls. And the number one thing I hear from clients is we don’t get business that way. My other favorite one is I got a guy for that. and typically that means that I don’t want to deal with it, I will just hand it off to someone else.

It’s not effective at all or I’m not willing to go outside of my comfort zone and do something that feels uncomfortable. They have you making an assumption that only social media is for the kiddos. Does nothing to do with my construction company. Has nothing to do with my manufacturing company.

Google Loves Thought Leaders

Here’s the news: Google is looking for thought-leaders. Remember google was founded by indexing professorship content at Stanford campus. These guys are on their A-game, and you want Google to see you as a thought leader as well.

Now, what a professor must do is create content, right? That’s, the website then they have to do ongoing research, that’s the blog, that’s connected to an RSS feed. So that means you are current and you know what’s going on. You know the trends and what’s happening in your field, that’s your blog.

It’s about how your digital presence is created to show you are an expert in your space. And let’s face it. We get pulled in a thousand different directions as business owners, I get it. Anyway, I don’t have time to deal with social issues, I have a business to run.

Well, the problem is that when you spend 6 months' worth of revenue on it. And it’s not doing anything better than the day that you started, now you’ve lost all that money and no return on your investment all because someone told you you should do it.

In Social Media, if findability is something you want to do to make sure you rank on Google, you must do social media because remember that’s your peer validation. Oftentimes, what I hear is when people don’t socially engage, they don’t engage because they don’t like it personally.

But Heather, I Am Not a Fan of Social Media, why should I care?

It doesn’t have anything to do with what your potential customers are looking for. Don’t make an assumption that people aren’t using social media to find you, there is a saying that assumptions are dangerous, and are you willing to take that risk, of missing out on that customer who doesn’t know they need you yet?

If you don’t go on Facebook, you don’t go on Twitter, you don’t go on LinkedIn, I don’t worry about that… I do and you should care about what 12 prospects might do. It’s important that we don’t want to stand in judgment of a specific social media site. Maybe you don’t tweet but Twitter still has a massive audience and so does Instagram.

As part of a Social Media presence you need to have a Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Even Pinterest accounts, there are so many benefits when it comes to Social Media and your business.

Remember, the center of your universe is a blog. Blogs have great content and some really cool images in them. You just take that one blog and share it to all the social sites, you’re done

Don’t Create Content for Each individual Site

Take one piece of content like your blog or a video and then repurpose it like crazy out to all the social sites. Now, what I want you to focus on as a leader in your business or as an entrepreneur, is to focus on that one piece of content for the blog.

And then you can give that away to someone in-house or someone external and say take this piece of content, make sure you use one piece of content and create a week's worth of content to share across all social media platforms,

Use a social media scheduler such as Planoly, Buffer, or Hootsuite, you can schedule all your content for one week and then walk away, that publishing software takes over, easy peasy.

Google is looking for thought leaders. Professors on their A-game. If you want your website to be found, you will socialize, and If you want your website to be found, you will blog.
