Why so scared?

Why so scared?

Recently on my way back to Delhi, from Pune, I saw an elderly lady, probably a cancer survivor, with a fractured arm on board the same flight. As the passengers started to deplane, I saw her looking worried for the cabin baggage that she had with her. It was probably too heavy for her to manage with a fractured arm. ?I am sure many noticed this but somehow choose to ignore her plight. I asked her if I could assist and her face just lit up like a Christmas tree. I carried the bag for her till her wheel chair assistance arrived. She thanked me with folded arms and blessed me.

As we started walking from the arrival terminal towards the baggage belt, I saw another lady struggling to get onboard the autowalk, was probably too scared. As I offered my hand to assist her, she smiled and said ‘’Shukriya, mujhe bahut daar lag raha tha (Thank you, I was feeling very scared to climb on it)’’

Also, at the Pune boarding gate an elderly couple was looking around for a seat. You could see that the lady was in pain and could not manage to stand for long. I offered my seat to which she refused at first, maybe because of my grey hair, but finally agreed to take up the offer. Her smile is something I will cherish for long.

All this happened in a matter of just a couple of hours, it makes me wonder why have we become so cold or have we started to become scared of doing the right thing? What is stopping us from doing the right thing.

Well, my reward was when my son told my wife that he wanted to be like me. Maybe my contribution to the world will be one less scared human being.?
