While OpenAI is toiling away trying to create an ‘iPhone’ moment in AI with the launch of its large language model-based ChatGPT and its plugins, Apple – the OG pioneer of iPhone – is?curiously silent, making little or no noise whatsoever in LLMs and generative AI.
Nvidia’s?Huizi Mao?said that Apple should be another big-tech company to worry about LLMs, after Google. He said that though LLMs may not be the path to strong AI, it has been proven to be a very powerful human-computer interface. “A brand new OS/ecosystem could spawn on it, just like when the touchscreen was first presented on iPhone,” he added.?
Interestingly, the only time the company spoke about LLMs was when it published a paper ‘Extracting Training Data from Large Language Models, alongside OpenAI, Google, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Harvard University, and Northeastern University.?
Another instance was the release of ‘Transformers architecture for Apple Silicon’, hinting that it might develop an LLM-based chatbot. Again, it gets a little suspicious given that Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, has also signed the petition, alongside Gary Marcus, Yoshua Bengio, Elon Musk, and a thousand others to pause the training of models beyond GPT-4.?
Looks like a stop-gap mechanism for the big tech to catch up with?OpenAI. Who knows? Apple might announce a slew of generative AI tools and capabilities at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023, which has been scheduled from June 5 to June 9, 2023.?

Interestingly, OpenAI had an in-house robotic division, but in 2021, the company scrapped it completely and decided to direct its resources towards AI research and development. Now, with its investments in 1x, will OpenAI switch its focus to robotics??Read to find out more.
