WHY IS IT SO? PART ONE: FEAR

At the end of my last blog piece, I said that I would be posting part 1 of this series later in the week and that it would deal with fear.
Now, that was nearly 2 weeks ago, and the reason for the delay is that I decided to experience this form of fear for myself, rather than just writing about it – I hasten to add, this was not intentional.
The interesting aspect of this was that I am no stranger to fear, but generally I do not allow it to get in my way.
I’ve been trying to figure out what was different this time.
The only thing that I can come up with is that this week my wife goes in for major surgery, and there is an air of anxiety about this procedure.
I’m wondering whether this has overflowed into my normal work day activities. I’d love to hear others’ opinions about this, as this is not something that I’ve encountered before.
Fear in itself is not a bad thing. There are many times in our lives where fear serves us very well. It can protect us from many dangers, including our own stupidity.
Fear is only a problem when it causes us to lose control over our thought process and either freeze or panic.
I’ve never been a lifesaver, but I’ve heard them say that so many people drown needlessly, simply because they have panicked.
Feeling fear is okay, it’s what we do from that point on that matters. Somebody once said that courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to act in the presence of fear.
So, the big question is, what are we going to do once we find that fear is getting in the way of achieving that which we desire?
Fear has many faces, and, if we are to tackle and overcome fear, we need to understand the root cause of the particular fear that we are facing.
In my next blog, I want to address the very common fear of failure.
Most of us mere mortals would have had to face this particular fear at some stage in our life; if you haven’t, then you are very lucky person.
