Why So Many People Feel Lost & Unsure of Their Purpose (And How to Change That)

Have you ever felt like you’re just going through the motions in life? Like every day looks the same, and you’re stuck in a loop of routine, responsibility, and quiet dissatisfaction?

You’re not alone.

In fact, studies show that over 70% of people worldwide either live in misery or have simply “settled” for a life they don’t love.

The idea of misery is easy to recognize—abusive relationships, overwhelming grief, or a deep sense of unhappiness. But settling? That’s a slow, subtle decline. And it’s even more dangerous because you often don’t see it happening.

We settle in all areas of life:

? In relationships, where we ignore red flags, stay in comfort zones, and fear being alone.

? In careers, where we stick with jobs that drain us because of security, benefits, or status.

? In finances, where we believe that struggle is normal and debt is inevitable.

? In health, where we accept stress, exhaustion, cancer, mental issues and even burnout as “just the way it is.”

And over time, settling becomes our default.

But here’s the truth:

?? The reason you feel lost isn’t because you lack purpose. It’s because you’ve forgotten who YOU are. I even forgotten about myself. My health and my priority in life. I was having an nice Call the other day with one of my first CEOs i worked for as an assistant. He asked me only one question: "Anja, are you happy?" I said no. He mentioned only one thing towards me: "You where one of the best assistants I ever had and I wished I would have seen that back than and encouraged you more towards a leading role, but I saw your Expertise and experience you gained within the years and I am so happy to see you grow."

Only this one hour of Communication and just talking and connecting again, made me think and feel of the power someones words have. Either they build you up or they destroy. There is no in between.

Somewhere along the way, life conditioned you to believe that you had to sacrifice your happiness for survival.

? You learned that playing it safe was better than taking risks.

? You were told that dreams are for the lucky few, not for people like you.

? You were taught to prioritize expectations over authenticity—to be what others wanted instead of who you truly are. So now for me it is time to shine, to write and also bring out all my Expertise from all my life to the table.

And now, you feel disconnected—from your joy, your passions, and the voice inside you that once believed in more. So I did when I woke up this morning.

But here’s what I need you to understand:

Your purpose isn’t something you need to find.

?? It’s something you need to remember.

Why Do So Many People Struggle With Purpose?

Because they’re trapped in their own beliefs.

Your mind has been shaped by circumstances, by society, by fear, and by limitations that were never meant to define you.

And over time, you started accepting those false beliefs as truth:

? “I’m not good enough.”

? “Success isn’t for me.”

? “I’ll never be able to change.”

? “This is just the way life is.”

And when you believe these things long enough, they become your reality.

But here’s the thing:

?? The problem isn’t that your purpose is lost.

?? The problem is that you’ve stopped listening to the part of you that still believes in more.

?? The Problem is that you gave more on what other people think, say or do in the outside instead of listening to your gut and intution.

How Do You Get Back to Yourself?

It starts with a decision.

A decision that you will no longer let fear, comfort, or limiting beliefs keep you from who you are meant to be. Mine was based on putting my health first. Because time and health are the most luxuries goods we as humans have.

And if you’re ready to take that step, here’s how:

5 Steps to Rediscover Yourself & Find Your Purpose

1?? Be Honest With Yourself

Stop pretending. Stop minimizing your dissatisfaction. Stop telling yourself, “It’s not that bad.”

Because if you’re feeling disconnected, unfulfilled, or lost—it is that bad.

The first step to change is radical honesty. You can’t fix what you refuse to face.

2?? Get Quiet & Remove the Noise

Your purpose isn’t found in distractions. It’s not in social media, mindless scrolling, or constant busyness. Or more Sales, more Pressure at work and not even found in any business meeting.

Purpose speaks in the quiet moments—when you pause long enough to listen.

?? Sit in silence.

?? Journal your thoughts.

?? Ask yourself: “If I wasn’t afraid, what would I want?”

3?? Reconnect With Joy

Think back to when you were younger.

What made you feel alive? What filled you with energy?

? Was it creating?

? Was it helping others?

? Was it teaching, exploring, writing, building?

So many people think finding purpose is about discovering something new, but often it’s about reconnecting with something you once loved but left behind.

Do more of that—even in small ways.

4?? Challenge the Stories You’ve Been Telling Yourself and also get told from your environment

Your mind is a powerful thing.

If you tell yourself that you’re not capable, not worthy, or not meant for more—you will believe it. Same if you hear those things in your work environment. And I can tell you as an Assistant or personal assistant you hear that a lot, even in the leading board or from Management.

But here’s the question: Who told you that? And who is teaching you?

Who told you success wasn’t for you?

Who told you happiness was out of reach?

Who told you life had to be about struggle instead of fulfillment?

?? Rewrite the story. Choose to believe something different. Because the life you want is only possible when you believe it’s available to you.

5?? Step Into Who You Were Created to Be

This is the hardest step—because it requires change.

It means:

? Letting go of old identities that no longer serve you.

? Choosing growth over comfort. Also choose Leaders who support you and lift you up.

? Taking action before you feel “ready.”

But here’s the truth:

?? Change doesn’t happen until the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of transformation.

?? Your comfort zone may feel “safe,” but it’s also where dreams go to die.

?? Growth is uncomfortable, but freedom, peace, and purpose are on the other side of that discomfort. Those things you can not buy with money.

Final Thoughts: You Are Not Lost—You Are Being Called to More

If you’ve been feeling lost, stuck, or unsure of your purpose, I want you to hear this:

? Your calling is still there.

? Your dreams are not gone.

? Your purpose is waiting for you to reclaim it.

All it takes is one decision—the decision to stop settling, to stop believing the lies, and to start becoming the person you were created to be.

And when you free yourself from fear, you will finally find yourself.

And when you find yourself?

?? You find your purpose.
