Why "Smart" Will Always Beat "Wow"

I live two very different lives.

In one, I help business professionals win deals and communicate with impact. In the other, I stand on stage in comedy clubs, delivering routines with a bit of bling and wow.

Here’s what I’ve learned: while bling and wow might work on stage, in business, it’s counterproductive.

When you’re pitching, presenting, or leading a negotiation, you don’t need flash, you need credibility, clarity, and control. You want people to focus on your message, not the noise around it.

First impressions matter, but in the end, substance will always win over style.

Interestingly, my two worlds overlap more than you’d think.

• As a comedian, I’ve mastered reading the room, thinking on my feet, and delivering a compelling story.
• As a corporate coach, I’ve learned that clarity, structure, and focus are what make people take action.

Both disciplines demand engagement but in business, smart is the new wow.
