Do you remember learning about fractions? For some, it was difficult to remember which was the numerator and which one was the denominator.
I promise this isn't going to be a boring math lesson.
Perhaps your teacher gave you a silly way to remember them. I used to tell my students that the "denominator" was on "da-bottom."
Hey!!!!
(Groans from the readers.)
While managing a team of instructional coaches, I was horrified one day when a teacher we observed incorrectly taught a lesson on fractions.
I looked at the coach to see what they were going to do. When I returned to the office and shared my observations with my boss, she asked me one powerful question – "Did you think to ask the coach if they knew what was correct?"
Nope. I assumed. And we know what assuming gets you.
I think about that conversation often as a reminder to slow down, be curious, and engage more.
Where do you need to slow down, be curious, and engage more in your career?
As we head into quarter 4, it's a great time to identify 1-3 people you need to talk to about your career and where it's going. Someone is willing to speak with you about your career, what you are doing well, and where you need to improve. Take time to listen. Don't be quick to react. Listen to what they share and be curious about what they see you doing well and where you need to improve.
Use these opportunities as a chance to engage more and build your internal network as you figure out whatever is next for your career.
Slow down – you got this.
