How good are you at connecting your skills to the business needs of a company?

One of the most common complaints we hear from developers is when they’re beaten to a job or contract by someone with less experience.

They don’t understand how someone else with less experience got the job they wanted and felt qualified for.

They often think the reason they got “passed up” is because they’re too expensive to hire or promote…

But that’s less common than you’d think.

The most common reason why technical folks miss out on opportunities is because they lack the ability to communicate how their skills and experience can impact the company for the better.

We often hear engineers explain in length about what they would do to help the company.

They focus on their technical knowledge and the process they would use but hardly touch on connecting their skills to the goals and fears of the boss.

The ability to explain your value to a potential boss or client is a critical skill that can be learned and should be practiced.

This is why we run a regular Pitch Clinic as part of the Tech Leader Program so skilled technical folks can practice selling themselves.

Want to hear more about how important it is to connect your skills with the needs of an employer or contractor?

There’s more to a successful career than just your skills.

It’s all about how you apply those skills to the business needs.

If you’re interested in joining our next Pitch Clinic, reply to this email and we’ll send you an invitation.
