Why Is Simplicity Still Only Lip Service?
Simplicity has become a meme. We talk about it, hold seminars on its virtues, and even worship at its shrine.
And though the principle of KISS—Keep It Simple Stupid—is as old as the hills, simplifying life still seems to elude us.
We have overcomplicated almost everything we can (if for no other reason than we can—if you see what I mean). Often, we jump into every application we can use because we can…regardless of how redundant or frankly useless it is.??
One area that comes to mind is data. The late great Lester Wunderman, who pioneered the use of real data in marketing, always said, "Consumers would sleep better if they realized that 98% of the data we can now and will collect is actually useless."?
KNEE JERK ALERT…. Don't regale us with your brilliant use of millions of data points and your 30-screen dashboards. If it was really true, there would be only one business left on earth—AMAZON.?
Think on this: A simple phone call can create more opportunities to share…to connect…to close than the most complex website or AI-generated customer loop. (Not that both don't have a role to play, but that's not the point.)?
I'm heartened by the growing number of anecdotes I hear from all over about how clients and customers value the simple personal touch.?
KNEE JERK ALERT…yes…when appropriate, as it makes the efficiency of our digital means so much more powerful.?
?Anyway, I loved the following statement and wondered...What do you think?!?
“I have a simple philosophy. Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. And scratch where it itches.” —Alice Roosevelt Longworth
?So here is my take on simplicity: Scratch....

10 个月Sometimes, simplicity can be talked about a lot, but it's not always easy to put into practice. People might say they value simplicity, but then get caught up in the complexities of life. It's important to remember that simplicity is a mindset and a conscious choice. David Sable

10 个月Less is more. I have a wonderful wife and kids. Now that I’m older and hopefully wiser, I no longer need to climb a corporate ladder, fly around proving I’m smart enough, I am at peace. I value people who inspire me. I share what I’ve learned and enjoy building new businesses. I’ve learned to take a breath and stop. KISS#MYOPINION
