Why Sicily?

Everyone makes choices every day but some decisions are so big that you can’t help but be filled with fear and uncertainty.

A few years ago, we decided to uproot our family and move from San Diego to Italy – landing in Sicily. I look back at my decision-making process in 2017 and I wonder if anyone could have predicted that I would still feel the same way today about this wonderful island.?

A lot of people have asked me, “Why Sicily?” and I tell them that we chose to move to Sicily, instead of the rolling hills of Tuscany or my beloved hometown of Turin, which is conveniently located in the lovely wine region of Piemonte, for many reasons — but the greatest of these is LOVE. My family fell in love with everything about Sicily!?

Michael and I are enjoying our lives together more than ever. See Italy is growing faster than ever and thriving, as are our children! People wonder why we didn’t choose one of the other more popular areas like Tuscany, Rome, or Florence to settle. Why this southern Italian area of Sicily that is so remote that some people question if it even is Italy??

The short answer is that we were simply being true to our nature, true to our core, true to the fact that we are drawn to ALL of Italy, especially the lesser traveled areas, and during our visits in 2016, we were instantly enamored with Sicily’s…?

…which gave us a new focus that we are excited to continue exploring.?

See Italy was born in 2011 with the goal of sharing our love for Italy with anyone interested in having an authentic Italian experience. We LIVE for the people who’ve returned from See Italy trips and who can’t stop talking about their experiences, gushing about their own newfound or renewed love for Italy.

The real validation that we’re doing what we were born to do comes when our clients rave to us and their travel agents that the most memorable trip they’ve ever been on was the one created by See Italy.?

After almost 25 years living in the United States and our nest beginning to empty as our older children left for college, we needed a change. When I started See Italy (and every day since), I put my entire life and soul into creating a business that feels like a family where everyone involved is empowered to use their own passion and love for Italy to craft travel experiences that are at times beyond description.

Experiences that, in one instant, may take a client’s breath away, and the next fill them with an emotional connection to an authentic Italy that they will remember for the rest of their lives.?

Our team has done such amazing work fulfilling our client’s dreams that we've been afforded the luxury of living in Italy for two years. Realize that we didn’t move simply for the fun of it, we moved to expand our knowledge and to find more areas with uniquely authentic Italian experiences in the southern part of Italy.?

My husband and I realized that the love that first united the two of us, the authentic love we have, is the same one we felt on our trip to Sicily in October of 2016. It made us realize that selling Italy is not just about talking budget with our clients but more importantly it involves connections, emotions, memories, and love.?

Our original plan was to spend a year in Sicily… and we soon begin our 7th year living here. Even if no one, myself included, could have known for certain the outcome, the fact is that we love Sicily even more now than ever.

This is a wonderful place where people cannot wait to help you at every corner, it is a place where you know you will always have the support and goodwill of the locals. Sicily just makes you feel like you are a natural part of the extended Italian family.?
