Why Should You Be PSE?

One of the things that was most striking to me during my new member process was the many reasons that each member had behind joining PSE. It’s no secret that a professional business fraternity is a one-stop shop in terms of on-campus organizations. From the incredible brotherhood to the service opportunities provided, there are endless reasons to join. However, in this blog, I will focus on the professional reasons why you should join Pi Sigma Epsilon and gain a competitive edge.

Resume and Interview Development

One of the first things you work on with PSE is your resume and interview skills. Our application process is an opportunity for you to improve each of these skills, and receive feedback from our members. Once you experience the interview process and are welcomed into the chapter, new members go through a professional development workshop that allows them to improve how they present themselves. As you continue through the chapter, you will not only receive advice on how to fine-tune these skills but you will also know how to speak on them in front of recruiters. Plus, there will always be a brother willing to support you if you ever need interview or resume guidance.?

Exclusive Recruiting Events

Recruiters know that PSE members will be dedicated interns and employees. Thus, many recruiters will come visit our chapter and to specifically look for PSE students to fill their positions. Oftentimes, we have recruiters speak at our general business meetings however you have an opportunity to meet them during our upcoming Be PSE week! Our professional development team will also help any PSE member in their internship or job search. Being in PSE allows you to learn about positions early, and interact one-on-one with recruiters.?

In addition, PSE holds a members-only post-career fair event. While career fairs can be daunting, being a member of PSI makes it less so. Post-career fair allows you to interact with recruiters who are excited to meet you and understand the skills you bring to the table from being associated with our chapter. Not only are they searching for our members, but this is a great opportunity to improve networking skills and learn from other brothers who have been through the process. Simply observing how a senior tackles the difficulty of a career fair can be an incredibly valuable experience. Most importantly, companies understand how talented and valuable PSE members are, and take time to provide us with exclusive opportunities.?

Projects, Committees, and Leadership Opportunities

Not only are companies actively seeking our members, but it is PSE’s goal to provide brothers with opportunities that will improve their professional presence. PSE allows members to pursue a broad range of interests and goals once they join the chapter. Each member completes the New Member Project before they are initiated into the chapter. Not only is this a great opportunity to meet your pledge class, but you can also learn from upperclassmen who provide advice throughout the project. The New Member Project is a great opportunity to improve numerous skills. Having gone through the project last semester, some skills that come to mind include teamwork, critical thinking, ideation, and communication. Our chapter always brings in an exciting client for the project that provides industry specific knowledge you wouldn’t learn from their website.

After you complete the new member project, you receive the opportunity to work on various committees and projects. There is something for each member of PSE, and they are a great ways to meet new brothers. Not to mention, any group you work with within PSE will be a fantastic development opportunity. And of course, if you put in enough work, there are elected leadership positions within the chapter! While demanding, these positions are a great way to get leadership experience and set yourself apart from the candidate pool. Plus, you will get to improve our chapter as a whole so new members have the best experience possible.?

Overall, there are numerous avenues within Pi Sigma Epsilon to allow yourself to improve both personally and professionally. The wide variety of options within our chapter sets us apart from other groups on campus which is exactly why you should Be PSE this fall semester.?

But don’t just take it from me… Here’s some tips from our Executive Board:

  • Tell us how you really feel, not what you think we want to hear! We want to learn about your true interests and passions so we can know more about you and help you succeed as a member of the chapter.
  • Go to our PD workshop! It’s the best way for you to learn more about what we’re looking for in the interview process, and to improve your ability to share your experiences.
  • Remember to be yourself and SHOW yourself! We want to get to know who you are more than what’s on your resume.
  • Make sure to use CAR format in your interviews! It really helps tell a cohesive story about your experiences and allows us to get to know you better.
