Why should you keep your commitments?

Hello good people!

It's yet another Thursday! It's week 8 people! It crept on me so fast that I was totally unprepared.

Thank you to you all who continue to encourage me by reading, liking, commenting, or sending me DMs- I appreciate each and every one of you.

I hope I reciprocate by encouraging you as you read my struggles. ?

I am workshopping (is there such a word?) the whole week, so haven’t had time to think of what to write about. Then it hit me- this is a commitment I made to myself and announced to you all out there. If I give an excuse that I am busy and don’t write, what will stop me from doing the same next week, or whenever I don’t really feel like it? And what is a commitment anyway? Isn’t it doing what you said you would do, even when you don’t feel like doing it? What I know for a fact is how good it feels when I click the send button. It’s worth the effort.

Have you ever thought of a mosquito’s commitment to bite you? You swat it from your face, it moves to your legs, you swat again, you think it's gone, then you hear it swooping onto your hands, and just when you think you have caught it between your hands or slapped it dead on your hand, it bites your ankle! If a mosquito cannot be thwarted by the threat of death, how about you? That’s just my thoughts wandering around…

What about you? How is doing what you said you would do going? On a scale of 1-10, where are you? Is there a commitment or a habit you are struggling to keep? Maybe you promised yourself to go to the gym 3 times a week? Journal every other day?? Stop drinking tea with sugar? Hmmm... and those cakes… you get the drift. ?Whatever it is, I hope you remind yourself of the great feeling you have when it’s done, and that will motivate you do to it when you really can’t be bothered, or when the devil is simply making you do it (Ahem to all those who need someone/ something to blame). Anyways, I went ahead and googled definitions for commitment, and below are some of the answers I got:

Something that you must do or?deal?with that?takes?your?time, OR an agreement or pledge to do something in the future.

Those definitions gave me the light bulb moment on what book to reference: ?The Four Agreements!- A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom?by?Don Miguel Ruiz.

The four agreements the author talks about the following:

1.?????? Be Impeccable With Your Word,

2.????? Don't Take Anything Personally,

3.????? Don't Make Assumptions,

4.????? and Always Do Your Best.

The first agreement is the one that drives me to do what I committed to even when I find it challenging. What are you without your word? What do people know you for, or what do you want to be known for? ?The author explains why you should be impeccable with your word beautifully: Why your word? Your word is the power that you have to create. Your word is the gift that comes directly from God. The Gospel of John in the Bible, speaking of the creation of the universe, says, "In the beginning there was the word, and the word was with God, and the word is God." Through the word you express your creative power. It is through the word that you manifest everything. Regardless of what language you speak, your intent manifests through the word. What you dream, what you feel, and what you really are, will all be manifested through the word.

Go read the book if this has captured your attention.

So, as you reflect on the above questions and the rationale for your word, I ask you, what is getting in the way of following through on the activities, plans, and goals you set for yourself? Is the excitement gone out of it? Is it no longer rewarding? Is it something to do with finances? If you can figure that out, then you can pivot and set commitments that make sense to you, But if you really feel you would still like to make it work, but just can’t figure out what’s holding you back, LETS CHAT!
