Why should you hire a professional tax preparer to do your taxes?

I have been asked numerous times over the past 19 tax seasons, “Why should I hire a professional tax preparer to do my taxes?” Let me answer that question with what transpired during my 1st tax appt this morning. The couple sitting across the desk from me had paid in over $40,500 in taxes during 2016 & they were getting a refund of $32,000. That in itself is AMAZING, but to top it off when they 1st came to me 2 years ago they paid in over $97,700 in taxes that year & only received a refund of $7,800. How is that possible, you might ask? By careful tax strategizing over the past 2 years, I have helped them maximize their deductions & reduce their taxable income without hindering them from qualifying for necessary financing. If there is not being given proper tax advice & education then you are most likely overpaying each year in taxes.
