Why should you not go with the cheapest web hosting for your website?

don't go with the cheapest hosting

It's been eight years since my company is developing websites now. The one thing we inadvertently hear is "Let's go with the cost-effective hosting".

The word cost-effective is a misleading word. The underlying meaning is "get the cheapest hosting".

I am not generalising here, but 9 out of 10 people want the cheapest hosting.

Agreed many times, the client just needs an online presence, and they are very sure they won't get much business through their website. Sometimes even though there's a likelihood of getting the leads through website, the client doesn't want to focus on it.

And that's fine. Every company has its strategy of generating leads, and not everybody is convinced that they want to use their website to generate leads.

But, what happens when either the business entirely depends on the website to generate leads or they're selling something online, and robust website infrastructure is uncompromisable.

In that case, going with the cheap hosting will have disastrous consequences.

Let's say you're sending traffic from your Google Ads to the landing page on your website. Now, you will want to have this landing page to load quickly.

It should not be a slow-loading sleep-inducing website. However excellent funnel you have built, if your hosting is slowing it down then, running all those ads is of no use.

That's all money down the drain.

We have seen companies selling $5000 software, reluctant to spend Rs 5000 per year on web hosting.

Will you ever cheap out on inferior workforce, inferior salespeople? No, right?

Then you should not go the cheapest route when it comes to web hosting if you depend heavily on generating leads through your website.

What I am saying should not be construed as go with the costliest hosting. What I want to say is depending upon your requirements, depending upon how vital website is for your business you should select the hosting.

So, what are the criteria for selecting the hosting?

  1. How much traffic per month you're anticipating?
  2. Do you need automated backups?
  3. Do you have a tech person with you who can handle unmanaged hosting or you want hosting company to take care of everything?

These are just a few of the criteria. There are few technical things also which we need to consider.

  1. Support for which database engine?
  2. Support for which server-side scripting language?
  3. Bandwidth
  4. Space

There is a hosting selection process which you need to follow to select the hosting.

Don't go with the cheapest or the costliest hosting. Go with the right hosting.

Well said Prathamesh.. i agree with u.. just creating web presence by saving cost is not beneficial in any means..
