Why Twitter??

Many business marketers are well-versed in the use of Facebook and LinkedIn for business purposes, yet have not given much consideration to using Twitter for business.

“How could Twitter possibly be good for my business?”

There are so many reasons why Twitter should be used for business. It is a fantastic and simple-to-use social platform that clever entrepreneurs will adopt to grow their business and cement their brand identity.

So why use Twitter?

  • A Plethora of Information: there is unlimited data on the internet and Twitter is a gateway to this wealth of information. From news to photos, videos to reviews and opinions, millions upon millions of pages exist on any topic imaginable and Twitter is a pathway to unlimited content. Twitter makes it easy for consumers to search for what they are interested in, thanks to trending topics and hashtags.
  • Updates in Real Time: relevant news and events are showcased on Twitter as they happen, in real-time; there is no more immediate social media channel and anyone can join the conversation.
  • Create valuable new Connections: open the door to making valuable new connections via Twitter – with other businesses and with consumers. Build relationships and locate new colleagues, employees, clients, mentors and customers. Connection with customers and targeted consumers is the top reason to use Twitter for business marketing. Twitter users visit the platform on a daily basis and you can harness the power of this to build your business and your brand identity, creating strong and positive relationships with consumers.
  • Branding: Twitter is a great place to cement your brand identity. The key to successful branding is personality – and via Twitter you can let yours shine.
  • Free Marketing: Twitter will be but one part of your overall marketing strategy – but it is a part that is FREE. For this reason alone, it’s worth including it in your overall marketing strategy.
  • Mobile Optimised: if you are using Twitter, your tweets are automatically mobile optimised – so you are reaching people instantaneously on their mobile phones. You can even elect to have your tweets sent as a direct text to subscribers. This is simpler and more affordable than enlisting a text messaging marketing company to undertake your SMS marketing strategy. You’ll need to create a separate account on Twitter for this purpose and tweet mindfully on it – only two or three times a week at most.
  • Run Promotions: use the platform to tweet special promotions, competitions, offers, and deals. Tweet time-sensitive coupon codes for your followers to use. Everyone loves to get a bargain or something special, or to feel like they have an inside track, and Twitter is a great way to deliver that and hence bring more customers through your door.
  • Customer Feedback: Consumers don’t need to be invited to give feedback on social media – and Twitter is no exception. Positive or negative, by listening to and appropriately responding to all feedback, you have an opportunity to not only improve your service in future, but to show your customers and followers that their opinion matters to you. This is a powerful business-building tool.
  • Watch your Competitors: “spying” on the competition is part of staying a step ahead in business. With Twitter, it’s easy and they won’t see you doing it! You can not only see what they are doing and saying; you can see what other consumers are saying about them. Take inspiration from the positives, and take lessons from the negatives. You can even be “in the right place at the right time” to offer a solution to a dissatisfied customer of one of your competitors.
  • Foster Brand Loyalty: happy customers are loyal. Engage them the right way, deliver what you promise, and maximise brand loyalty.
  • Increase Sales: grow your business, your sales, and your profits by tweeting for your business. Consumers are captured by your profile, they become followers, and some will explore further and visit your website. Others will become lead generators for your brand, tweeting about you and retweeting your content.

Tips for Using Twitter for Business Marketing?

With the right approach, you can boost traffic to your website and build your connections with Twitter. Twitter is akin to a live networking phenomenon, and anyone can join the conversation. It’s important to fully embrace the platform as not just a place for broadcasting to followers, but for interacting and engaging with them – a two-way conversation. In real life, you’d not walk into an arena and start shouting at everyone with your ears plugged to their responses; don’t take the same approach on social media.

There are numerous ways on Twitter to build better connections and to expose your brand to the right audience. Some tips for maximising the effectiveness of Twitter for business marketing include:

  • Tweet Frequently. Tweeting often help with search engine optimisation. Your online ranking searches improve when you tweet frequently, using targeted keywords in your tweets, and you also remain active in newsfeeds. Have your brand name in your Twitter handle, or at least in your bio, and include some keywords in your bio as well.
  • Use Google Alerts to monitor your company name. This will help you know what people are saying about you and your brand.
  • Locate Opportunities with Advanced Search Options. This Twitter tool allows you to insert keywords most likely to be used to search for what you provide. It delivers a list of tweets relating to your keywords (the tweeters are leads) and you can then reach out to the lead, introduce yourself, and make them aware of you and your service.
  • Boost Traffic with New Headlines. Whenever you tweet a link (to new blog posts, to your website, etc), tweet them between ten and twenty times but each time under a different headline. This creates unique content, enhances exposure, and maximises your visibility.

Twitter can be your best friend and a great brand ambassador. By following the above-mentioned guidelines and Twitter best practices, you can’t fail to build your brand identity and consumer base in an exponential way. Remember to put yourself in the shoes of the audience and deliver what you would want to see – interesting, informative, captivating content with valuable links, as well as optimal engagement. This helps to personalise your brand and create a stronger vendor-consumer relationship. Why would you not love Twitter for building your business?
