Why should we have a “MENTOR”…

When I started my “Sales” career in 1996 as a “Tele- Marketing Executive” while I was associated with DBS Corporate Services Pvt. Ltd.
I was very fortunate to have one of the best Sales person in my company, our own Managing Director who was my mentor, guide, leader, counsellor …….She had travelled globally and would understand business nuisances while dealing both with National / International clients…I reported to her directly in the function of “Sales & PR” for more than 6 years…..
My MD would sit with me, show me how to structure my work day, how to approach people, how to prepare marketing collaterals and business communication, carry out new business leads and let me ask a million and one questions, without complaining about how annoying I was... She made me understand why selling every single day is important. Why we should network even if we are pioneers in our business with superlative service…
The above experience helped me learn Effective Lead Generation- Pan India, Pre-Sales, Customer Service orientation, Client management, Key account management... We were one of the best performing centers in Mumbai and received many awards and rewards for the same
Today, when I look back, I have gained immense knowledge because of having a mentor like my MD with me during my early stage of my career…
Hence, thought of sharing with you this article ….stating that each one of us should have a mentor at a very early age even while we are busy with our academics....
Finding a mentor is integral … WHY…..
- You will gain confidence quickly
- Help you understand your own SWOT analysis
- You will learn the ropes quicker
- Facilitate a very conscious career path
- You won't have to reinvent the wheel….
If something is working for someone who has double your experience, chances are if you can replicate it in your own way, you may also find success.
Hence, I would highly recommend that each one of us should have a mentor be it internal within the organization or outside in the Industry….
Keeping the above learnings, I decided to be part of the education fraternity and mentor the “Y” Generation through my personal and professional learnings .....by working closely in imparting self development programs, personality development programs, placement assistance, career guidance, resume building …..which are conceptualized and implemented successfully in Engineering and Management colleges in Mumbai and Pune..
