I have so many thoughts on AI (mostly good—but also mixed with some concern). ChatGPT has strengthened its foothold in mainstream society over the last two years.

Yet consumers are still paying for human-based services in 2025, so I thought it would be helpful to explore why a little bit more. I think it's important to challenge ourselves to understand the real, cold, hard value we provide as industry professionals.

Editor's personal opinion: I like AI and use it to an extent. However, there are certain things that should be delegated to the bots - and some things that should not be delegated (e.g. writing an authentic happy birthday message to your grandma).

With some lighthearted humor, someone on our team asked ChatGPT why customers should choose us over AI. To my complete surprise, it absolutely nailed the logic.

Here are ChatGPT's six reasons (verbatim) and my (more human) responses.

My (human) commentary: I have always strongly believed that our people are our strength as an organization. Our vetting process is serious; we handpick every single one of our writers carefully so that our overall quality stays consistently high.?

#2. Personalization

"While AI can generate content, a service like Letseatgrandma.com often offers personalized attention and customizes the resume to highlight your unique strengths, experiences, and career goals in a way that AI tools may not be able to fully capture."

My commentary: Every single client gets 1-on-1 phone time with their writer. That is key to a fantastic resume. Our phone consultations have been a major part of our process since day 1; they allow our clients' strengths to shine through. How do we know which aspects of our clients' careers belong on the resume? The answer often comes as a result of a powerful brainstorm between client and writer.?

#3. Industry-Specific Knowledge

"A professional resume service is often more attuned to the nuances of specific industries, job roles, and applicant tracking systems (ATS). They may optimize your resume for ATS better than a generic AI tool."

My commentary: Nailed it. Aside from their writing talents, many of our writers bring their own unique backgrounds to the table. Many have been a part of the hiring process themselves, so they bring a powerful human element to market our clients using human psychology.

#4. Attention to Detail

My commentary: I personally come from a hospitality / customer service background. So I know how important this one is to me. I will admit that AI does a fabulous job in assisting with phrasing and grammar.

However, there are subtle language nuances that can only be captured by an expert. It's like learning a foreign language from a textbook. But then when you go out and speak that language in the real world, some of the textbook phrases don't translate perfectly. Our writers know how to talk the talk.

#5. Time-Saving

"While AI tools can assist with writing, creating a perfect resume can still take significant time. By outsourcing it to a service like Letseatgrandma.com, you can focus on other parts of your job search, such as networking or preparing for interviews."

?My commentary: At the end of the day, with AI you're still putting in those hours to work on your own resume foundation. My commentary: When you "talk" with ChatGPT, it can quickly become like an echo chamber. The unique advantage of working with a resume writer is that you'll get honest feedback and creativity that will ultimately lead your resume to a better place.?

Final thoughts:

I am not here at all to rip on AI. (Heck, I might even be a bit sad if it didn't exist).

However, I wanted to write this specific newsletter as a commentary of its impact on the resume writing industry -- as well as illustrate to discerning buyers how we are different.
