Why Should You Stream?

I have been working with mobility and streaming since 2012 when I started BlueFire Marketing focused on mobility. People always ask me, "Why should I stream vs. broadcast as a business?" Or, as consumers, "I love my DTV or Comcast, but what about YouTube TV?"

There are 3 basic reasons for businesses and consumers are moving to streaming:

  • Convenience - using mobile video streaming apps are convenient. The user can watch favorite shows on the go, anywhere. Television broadcast lacks mobility
  • Quality - the quality of the video content that is being streamed is significantly higher than television. You can watch 4K video through the video stream app and can't always you achieve that quality with cable television.
  • Cost/Value - The value of information should not be underestimated. The value is determined by the unique user based on how interesting the content is With television, the user can’t always choose what to watch, only he channel but not the show. The video stream app user is in always control (personalization). He or she chooses what and when to watch.

Mobile Video Stream On The Rise

Every year a number of people that “cut the cord” is growing rapidly. Why is this?

According to the Statistica, https://www.statista.com/statistics/444318/mobile-device-video-views-share/more 62% of all videos are now watched on a mobile device. This trend will continue grow by 20% plus for at least the the next two years, according to the Ericsson Mobility Report.

Soooo, maybe this has convinced you that you want to stream? Below are some things to consider when setting up a live streaming app for your business.

11 Things to Consider When Setting Up a LIVE Video Stream

  • Create several ways for customers to register – try to make your app as easy to start using as possible
  • Add Comments – provide a way to communicate and debate under a video
  • Offer different quality levels of video – make your app usable on the range of devices
  • Design Uniquely – your app must be visually distinguishable from other competitive brands. Spend the money and develop your own differentiated design
  • Operate on multi-platform support –you want to make your app usable on the widest possible range of devices
  • Create the ability to stream high-quality video content to your mobile device
  • Add-on live video sharing via social media
  • Allow for LIVE! stream video directly from mobile devices. This includes countless possible ways where this can be useful for the users from video conferences to emergency broadcast of some event that’s happening near the user.
  • Create a local storage feature so the user can watch it later, but beware of the video copyright issues which can become costly.
  • Add additional engagement features like push notifications. It is one of the best ways to inform users about some news or updates.
  • Consider an in-app e-commerce function to purchase your companies' products right then and there. It should be easy in no more than 3 steps so the user isn't frustrated.

We did weekly livestreams at my last company, a B2C music tech startup, and saw a corresponding spikes in app installs, active users and overall engagement. It's also something I'm thinking we can leverage at my current company that's more B2B focused.?
