Career Advancement and Visibility
Throughout my 19-year corporate career, I've discovered that public speaking is a well-trodden path to advancement. Public speaking, in my opinion, helps you demonstrate your competence and confidence, both of which employers value in their employees. People who participate in public speaking opportunities may gain additional credibility. Furthermore, when you speak, you demonstrate leadership qualities. You are exceeding expectations by going above and beyond. So, in addition to the academic pressure, if you can only learn one skill, make it public speaking because it will help you advance in your career.
You can also gain visibility within your company, which can put you in line for new assignments and promotions.?
Increased Industry Status and Reputation
Public speaking does more than just raise your status in the eyes of your boss and senior executives. Your on-stage presence at conferences and events can also have an impact on your industry reputation. When you speak, you establish yourself as an expert, which helps you build a solid personal brand and lends credibility to your words.
You can gain equal or superior standing to the other panelists when you participate in a panel. In some industries, you may even become the go-to speaker on specific topics. You could be regarded as an expert in your chosen field. I've discovered that "speaking attracts more speaking," and that each speaking engagement results in more (and frequently better) speaking engagements. Not to mention that appearing on stage may lead to opportunities for roles other than your current one, as well as awards and other forms of recognition. Grab every speaking opportunity that comes your way and promote it on social media platforms, in my opinion, to show the world what you're made of. Who else will promote you if you don't? Please keep in mind that obscurity will do more harm than good in your professional life, so don't be afraid to promote yourself.?

Travel and Wider Networks
There are benefits other than career advancement, such as traveling around the wrold. Perhaps you've never been to Switzerland, Norway, or Italy, but the largest tradeshows in your industry are held there, and you'll be able to attend because you'll be speaking at the event. Perhaps you could stay an extra day or two as a reward for yourself.?
In the long run, mastering public speaking is a sure-fire way to boost your confidence and establish yourself as an authority in your company and industry. Only those who are regarded as authorities in their fields advance to senior management positions.
Most working professionals discover much later in their career that had they worked on this skill earlier on in their career, they would have been able to build a solid personal brand and advance to senior-level positions much faster.
You are still a young graduate, and this is your window of opportunity to develop certain skills that will allow you to build solid career capital. So, don't pass up this golden opportunity and begin working on yourself right now.
