Why selling your job vacancy matters as much as selling your product or service

Why selling your job vacancy matters as much as selling your product or service

Are you struggling to get enough applications for the role you have?

You could look at how you are recruiting and ask yourself are you doing enough??

Do you put as much effort into hiring staff as you do getting new clients, honestly do you?

I often hear the following companies say when they try themselves

·????? The candidates are just not applying for the role

·????? The quality of candidates is not great

·????? What’s wrong with us, we are a great company.

How many businesses get new clients ?

1.???? Sales calls

2.???? Marketing email

3.???? Social media

4.???? Networking

5.???? Business expo

6.???? Referrals from current clients

7.???? Google PPC or Adverts

How many businesses get new staff

1.???? Advertise the role on Indeed and wait

2.???? .

3.???? .

4.???? .

5.???? .

6.???? .

7.???? .

It amazes me that companies then wonder why they just do not get enough applications and then hire the best of the short list they have. Don’t get me wrong, this can work very well and I’m sure many companies have hired great people like this. Indeed is a great job board, we use it too. However, have you ever thought am I giving this the best shot, could I get a better reach, or could I just get a few more applications.

My view is if companies spent as much effort in advertising a vacancy as they do getting clients, they would get a much better response. More candidates, better visibility, more choice, greater success.

What could you do

1.???? Advertise the role on all job boards that are right for your role, carefully pick the right one there are so many to choose

2.???? Look at job boards with databases you can access, a small price to get the data for passive candidates.

3.???? Social Media posts – Create a post on Linked-in and get all your staff, friends, family to comment, like and share the post to promote the role

4.???? Create a blog on your website with a good news story, “Due to our success we are hiring”

5.???? Email all the staff, offer a referral programme to help you hire. Remember staff like extra ££££

6.???? Look to promote within the business, your ideal candidate may already work for you

7.???? Networking – Promote a vacancy, talk about it share your news

Your job advertising is like your shop window for candidates. You can make it more appealing to get more people to come in.

Great article Steve Parmar-Greaves. You are spot-on with this. Market dynamics means recruitment is a really tough brief for organisations right now. Too often they fail to understand the need to maximise and communicate down every available channel.
