A question that I almost get every time I introduce myself.

Sales is a career just like any other occupation, where one starts as a greenhorn but with dedication and continuous development, you evolve into a master of your craft. It is about developing oneself as well as one’s customers and the market in a changing environment. Sales mastery transcends the closure of deals only; it involves understanding customers and influencing them towards lasting results that benefit both the salesperson individually as well as the organization he/she works for.

Sales serve as the primary driver of revenue generation and business growth. Beyond the financial impact, you may say that they serve as the company’s ambassadors whether it is a product or service, they form Viral relationships with the clients.


The following are 6 Key critical Strategies that can be employed by #sales #engineers in various industries towards their development:

1- Continuous Learning and Training:

Product and Industry Knowledge: Keep yourself up-to-date on recent developments in the market, and understand its trends, technological advancements, etc. Attend webinars/seminars/workshops for more insight.

Sales Techniques: Learn effective sales strategies, negotiation skills, objection-handling techniques, and ways of building relationships through attending training programs like LinkedIn training or self-study.

2- Customer Understanding and Relationship Building:

Obtain a thorough understanding of the businesses, pain points, and specific needs of customers. Regularly communicate with customers for feedback-gathering purposes and for developing relationships and identifying opportunities to provide tailored solutions.

Use CRM tools to keep customer profiles up-to-date, monitor contact points, and personalize communication based on customer preferences and behaviors.

3- Personnel Growth:

Evaluate strengths and areas that need improvement through self-reflection, feedback from colleagues or managers as well as performance evaluations. Develop an actionable plan for development with clear goals and timeframes.

Set aside a specific time to participate in learning activities such as reading industry magazines, taking online courses, or attending professional growth events.

Take part in networking events like industry conferences, and trade shows among others which enhance relationships, exchange of ideas, or information sharing on market trends in your profession.

Become a member of an association related to salespeople or specific industries which could give you access to critical career certification resources among other opportunities such as high-level position advancement.
