Why Sales jobs are the best*

*For people who have above-average people skills and want financial success. Of course if you hate people interaction, this job won't work for you.

In our technical/educational-degree obsessed world where entire businesses thrive off of credentialing, most people live paycheck to paycheck. Many people want to free themselves from financial woes but they don't know how to achieve it from a career perspective.

What most people don't realize is: if you want a high income, the easiest way to get there is pursuing sales as a career.

But no! That's "risky", that's not "stable". Those are all excuses; let's face it, your biggest objection to sales jobs is that your parents would disown you, your friends will disdain you, and your teachers will tell you you're not living up to your full potential.

The reality is society as a whole dissuades people who otherwise would be great at sales jobs, from pursuing sales jobs.

Well, my life and the hoards of other salespeople who became millionaires at a young age will prove to you that society is dead wrong (as it is about most things).

Here's why sales is the best career for ambitious people who want to create financial wealth:

#1. You get paid fairly. In sales, you can earn as much as you're worth. Unlike salaried roles where your income is capped at every stage of your career, in sales, you can earn as much as you are capable of. This is what I love most about sales; your pay is based on achievement.

Unlike salaried roles where seniority matters most, sales is an even playing field. If I'm better at driving revenue and results, I deserve to be paid better! Sales as a career will not penalize you for your youth.

In fact, the more successful you are young, the more opportunities are available to you in your career! You don't need the passage of time and "experience" to earn your stripes; you can skip the line if you're good enough.

#2. Low costs to get started. You don't need an MBA, Masters, or PhD. The reality is that even highschool graduates have succeeded in sales (2 CEOs, a few VPs I worked for didn't even go to college!). Although some sales firms are pedigree-driven, most are willing to take a chance on you if you can show them you're capable, articulate, and self-educated.

Added bonus: For those who grew up without a silver spoon in their mouth, sales gives you a chance to earn more money than you can imagine. Sales further evens the playing field for those who didn't have the resources to pursue high-cost education due to lack of parental support, education, and finances.

#3. You can make a lot of money YOUNG. As I furthered my career in sales as a headhunter, I was making over 6-figures by age 24. That was only year 2 in business, and I started late (I worked at my parents restaurant for a year while figuring my life out). That's a massive advantage over others who graduate with tuition debt and a higher age joining the workforce.

Why is this important? My high income at a young age gave me a distinct advantage from an investment standpoint. Because I started earning 6-figures young, I could buy real estate faster, invest in the stock market more, leading to a positive cycle of making money off of money, by myself.

#4. Sales expertise opens doors to entrepreneurship and executive-level positions young. Because you curate your people and negotiation skills to the extreme in sales, your capability to move and shake organizations, individuals, and society increases exponentially. Your persuasion skills beat the ordinary citizen by leaps and bounds.

As you get more senior in sales, your network expands, leading to natural opportunities for growth, new jobs, and promotions. Your sales expertise also allows you to woo staff, corral investors, and achieve a solid financial foundation if you're interested to eventually start your own company (like me).

In conclusion

In hindsight, I wish I had the courage to skip college and go right into my sales career as a headhunter. Sadly, I was encouraged by society and parents that college was my only option to obtain "a stable job" and "not starve".

No matter what society and the media tell you: Numbers don't lie. Without any further education or pedigree, I out-earned the majority of the US population, making over $200k by age 25.

I'm a female and a minority: what other job would allow me to do that at such a young age?!

Although other jobs may sound more prestigious, the reality is that sales makes young people rich. I see it everyday from my past colleagues, myself, and all the amazing headhunters and leaders I've come to know at Dandan Global.

This is one of the best articles I have read so far and thank you. I recently declined a retail management position to go after a sales position and so far I have spoken with more CEOs and CIO than ever in my work career.
