Service Robotics, a trending word across the globe with mixed opinions, generally starting from the famous, 'Robots will take your job!' and extending it a bit deep into 'robot can be a remote detonator' or 'Robot could be a data privacy thief' and much more. Its negative comments all over, some from the experts and more from the layman. The positive side of Robotics has already had a huge impact in every individual's daily life without their consent during the past few decade. Its not in recent past, the topic of robotics came into existence, but it is only in the recent past that robotics has been understood by a mass public and the problem lies there.
Consider a scenario in a well known industry, for using robots, the automobile industry. Decades back, for the level of low demand that the sector had, manually assembled cars were a feasible task. Imagine the non-existence of robots , with the automobile sector still keeping up its growth phase. You would either had to wait an year to have 'your' car made or even a simple hatchback would have been your luxury priced dream car. you are facing neither of the situation not because automobile industry became smart, but because of them choosing the help of Robotics. During the penetration of robotics in to automobile industry, it is non-arguable that people lost their jobs, but where is the end of human employees that we were speaking of then and now?.
Innovation is meant to make you smart, and your career aswell. Not one parent, working as a low level service task employee would have wanted or want their kid to go through their suffering. In that case, who is going to that job after their generation. Let me put this is another manner, any parent would want their kid to be smart(er) and do better things with life. In this case, the gen-next would be having smart kids and so should their available career opportunities be. To take a scenario, take a 40 year old guy working in an automobile factory to assemble any part during 1980's, his kid would probably be working as an engineer on the backend of the robot which is located in an assembling unit. This applies to any one who is wanting a smarter next generation, be it someone who is serving drinks in a bar, receptionist at a hotel, selling goods in a grand mall and more (i'll leave this to your imagination from here).
If robots have been doing good for you, then why layman thoughts are negative?. The answer to my understanding is simple. The robots have been doing good for you out of your sight and without you witnessing, impacting your economy, efficiency and lifestyle in positive way and, making the GENY smarter than GENX and the same cycle is keeping the millennials, as we know them now as the smartest generation.
Speaking of next generation being smarter, education is the bridge between generations and robots are taking over the task and credit of making the next-gen smarter. Let me try to sum it up in my next writeup.
Note: The Writeup is just a personal opinion of mine and does not target, with respect to personal relevance or understanding or in any manner , an individual or an organisation
