Why is Road Rage even a thing?

Road rage. Driving. Why do we turn into monsters when we get behind the wheel?

How do we become more conscientious when we drive?

Most of the time we are more than kind when we do things in public, but when we drive, we become demons. It’s something I have trouble understanding.

Is it because we are surrounded by a couple of tons of metal? Is it because we think that people can’t see us?

What is this power trip we all get from our cars?

Is it possible to be a disciplined, kind driver who simply doesn’t care about who passes us or who is driving too slowly?

Lately, I’ve been doing my best to be on top of my game while I’m driving. To be patient. To let people in. To not get too flipping angry when somebody does something wrong on the road.

It’s a conundrum that I want to correct. Let’s do this as a collective.

Let’s start being cool behind the wheel. Let’s not be bothered too much when we are in charge of this few tons of metal.

I want to be around to see the era of the “polite driver.” The driver that is never bothered by other drivers, or even by the weather.

I want to make it possible to correct this “road rage” thing.

The next time we get in our cars, think of how we are kind in line at the grocery store, or when we have a number in our hand at Service Ontario.

Think of something like the Christmas spirit and how powerful it is to love someone. The other drivers are not your enemies. This is not "combat" or a race. This is about getting our days done. Our days organized.

A lot of accidents could be prevented if we simply followed the rules of the road. There isn’t much difference in getting to your destination when you drive 20 km/h faster.

It might save you five minutes but maybe getting to that hockey tournament five minutes later and alive matters a lot more than getting there speedily and making friends with the paramedics.
