Why Rest is important for every creative

Why Rest is important for every creative

I and a couple of my friends had the worst times of our lives in 2020, I am sure you’ll know them if I give a mention. This is a short note of why your health is very important as a creative and why it is important to always prioritize your health over many other things.

Before 2020, we were equally as active and full of energy as we were today, but due to the rush we were experiencing within our field of practice we became so work-focused and chose to pay with our individual health. Many times, I will skip breakfast just because I thought it was time taking and I could always eat whenever I wanted. Other times I chose to stay up all night just to pick up some new skill or get some work done. Little did I know that I was beginning to hurt myself in every way I could.

June - September 2020, I had an ulcer. I woke up with severe pain and many times I had to make sure I had someone around to help me prepare food to eat. I was literally overwhelmed with the thoughts that I may lose my life in the process ??. I began buying pretty expensive drugs and eating very unusual meals. In the long run, I spent the same money I was working so hard for on getting a full recovery. The same goes for my eyesight and full body. Taking time off-screen, drinking enough water, talking instead of chatting, and also meeting people in person instead of the online meeting became medicine for me.

I am young and I really would love to live long, I have chosen to prioritize good food, proper rest, and peace of mind over work. I have learned to cut down stress and take some time off work as these have improved both my physical and mental health.

I compel young creatives out there, professional, intermediate, or beginners, to please take time off to take care of yourself, go for a checkup, exercise more, embrace your human side, and above all cleanse your mind off pressure and you will find some healthy lifestyle.

Thanks for reading this, I hope you also get to share your recovery experience with someone somewhere as well, have a great day.
