Why Resilience Matters, Naive Founders Who Follow the Rule Book, Discussion on AI, Ethics, Responsible AI

Welcome to BetterYouOS newsletter!!!

Let's focus on 3 things:

  • Resilience
  • Rulebooks and Founders
  • AI Ethics

Why Resilience Matters

Resilience isn’t about pushing through at all costs; it’s about making smart adjustments when things get tough.

It’s the mental agility to pivot and adapt to whatever challenges come our way, without losing sight of our vision.

For founders, resilience means staying grounded even in uncertainty—learning from setbacks instead of letting them stall our progress.

3 Tips for Building Resilience:

  1. Set Boundaries Early: As I learned in a recent conversation with Andrea Garfield, work isn’t family. Protect your personal time—it fuels the energy you bring to your business. Setting boundaries doesn’t mean you’re not committed; it means you’re building a sustainable work-life balance.
  2. Embrace Iterative Growth: Every setback is a chance to learn. Instead of fearing failure, think of it as part of your iterative journey toward a better product, team, or strategy. Like a pivot in tech development, resilience lets you make small adjustments that add up to big wins over time.
  3. Stay Focused on What Matters: In the day-to-day grind, it’s easy to get caught up in the noise. Reconnect with your core values and goals regularly. Focus on the "why" behind your work and let it guide your decisions.

Why Naive Founders Who Follow the Rule Book Tend to Fail

Too often, founders believe there’s a playbook—a strict set of rules that guarantees success if followed to the letter.

It’s an easy trap, especially for those just starting out, and while guidelines and advice are valuable, over-reliance on them can stifle innovation and limit your potential.

The reality is, the “rule book” doesn’t know your unique journey. The most successful founders push beyond conventional wisdom to create their own paths.

Rules and advice should be starting points, not rigid frameworks.

Here’s how to break free from the rule book without losing your way:

  1. Trust Your Instincts: While research and advice are helpful, your intuition and unique insights are just as important. If something feels right (or wrong) in your gut, take time to consider why. It might lead you toward something no playbook could have anticipated.
  2. Question the Norms: Not every trend or “best practice” applies to every business. Before following a rule, ask if it truly fits your brand, vision, and goals. Be open to carving out your own approach instead of chasing what works for others.
  3. Experiment & Adapt Quickly: Embrace flexibility. If a rule or strategy isn’t delivering results, don’t hesitate to pivot. Agile founders stay nimble, using early feedback to refine their approach instead of feeling trapped in a “one-size-fits-all” solution.
