Defining a clear and focused research question is of paramount importance in any research endeavor for several key reasons:
How to draft Research question?
1. Choose a Broad Topic: Start by identifying a general area of interest or a broad research topic that you find intriguing or relevant to your field of study.
2. Conduct Preliminary Research: Before drafting a research question, conduct some preliminary research to familiarize yourself with the existing literature and key concepts related to your chosen topic. This will help you refine your focus and identify gaps in the current knowledge.
3. Identify a Research Problem: Based on your preliminary research, pinpoint a specific research problem or issue within your chosen topic area. This problem should be something that you want to explore, understand, or solve through your research. Your research question should be clear, specific, and concise. It should clearly state what you want to investigate or explore. Avoid vague or overly complex questions.
4. Make It Researchable: Ensure that your research question can be answered through empirical research methods. It should be feasible to gather data and evidence to address the question.
5. Avoid Yes/No Questions: Steer clear of questions that can be answered with a simple "yes" or "no." Instead, craft questions that require a deeper analysis or investigation.
6. Consider the Type of Study: Think about the type of study you plan to conduct (e.g., exploratory, descriptive, experimental, qualitative, quantitative). Your research question should align with the study's design.
7. Seek Feedback: Share your draft research question with peers, advisors, or mentors. Getting feedback from others can help you refine and improve your question. Based on feedback and further reflection, revise and refine your research question as needed. It may take several iterations to arrive at a well-crafted question.
8. Write It Down: Finally, write down your research question in a clear and concise manner. It should be the central focus of your research project and serve as a guide throughout your study.
